The Scripps Howard Fund is partnering with the Journalism + Design Lab at The New School on the 2026-27 Community College Experiential Journalism Grants program. Grant recipients, who will be selected from the inaugural cohort of the Journalism + Design Lab’s Community College Civic Info Challenge, will receive up to $15,000. The schools will use these funds to expand or improve existing community journalism programs.
There are eight community colleges in the cohort. Each is finding innovative ways to share community information. “Last year, we had an incredibly successful grant program for community colleges,” said Mike Canan, senior director of journalism strategies with the Scripps Howard Fund.
“We knew we wanted to keep working in this space. The Journalism + Design team has been leading in this area, so we decided to partner to help these community colleges accelerate their community journalism growth.
