Seismological Society of America (SSA) Annual Meeting Travel Grant

The Seismological Society of America (SSA) Annual Meeting Travel Grant is a grant from SSA that funds attendance at the SSA Annual Meeting for students, early-career researchers, and international members. Five grant types cover different member categories: student, early-career (within six years of terminal degree), international, ESC/SSA, and domestic regular members.

Awards include complimentary registration plus funds for travel, lodging, and meals. Applications open each November; recipients must be first authors presenting at the meeting. Over 150 participants have been supported in the past decade.

Over the past ten years, SSA has funded Annual Meeting travel for more than 150 participants.

Grants include complimentary registration and funds to support lodging, meals and travel accommodations. Learn about our past recipients . SSA is offering five types of travel grants to participate in the 2027 Annual Meeting: Student Travel Grants are available to SSA student members from inside or outside the U.S. Early-Career Grants are available to members in good standing who are within six years of their terminal degree.

International Travel Grants are available to non-U.S. resident SSA members who are six years or more post terminal degree (i.e., students and early-career members should apply through the grants for their membership category). ESC/SSA Travel Grants are available to anyone traveling from a member-state of the European Seismological Commission. An active SSA membership is not required to apply for this grant.

This grant is provided under a cooperative agreement between SSA and ESC. Click here to see the list of ESC member-states. Domestic Regular Members Travel Grants are available to anyone traveling domestically to the meeting who holds a regular SSA membership.

Government employees are ineligible for this travel grant. Grant Requirements and Eligibility: All student and early-career applicants must have a faculty advisor or supervisor submit a one-to-two paragraph letter of support to ssagrants@seismosoc. org by 30 November 2026 .

All travel grant recipients must be first author on their abstract and present their work in either an oral or poster session at the meeting. Only one application per category per institution may be awarded. Applicants will be evaluated on their personal essay, abstract and letter of support (if required).

Conveners: If you will be convening an Annual Meeting session and qualify for one of the above Annual Meeting travel grants, you may apply without submitting an abstract. In the section where it asks for your abstract, please explain you are co-convening a session and provide your session information there. Applications for the 2027 Annual Meeting Travel Grants will be open 1-30 November.
