Quintero, Secretary Family & Community Services Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) What is the purpose of this program? The Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) is a food and education assistance program for low income seniors. This program provides benefits that help Seniors eat well and stay healthy by increasing access to fresh, locally grown fruits, vegetables, fresh cut herbs, and local honey.
Who can receive these benefits? Older adults who are at least 60 years old Low income requirements apply. 2026 Income Eligibility Guidelines are outlined in the table below.

Benefits to purchase fresh, nutritious, locally grown fruits, vegetables, honey, and cut herbs from authorized farmers' markets and roadside stands Information about nutrition and health to help older adults eat well and be healthy Services are provided in 37 counties throughout the state.

Contact the agency for information on submitting an application and seasonal distribution information.
For the city of Chicago, the Greater Chicago Food Depository distributes the Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) benefits. Upcoming Changes to the Illinois WIC FMNP and SFMNP Programs Banks around the country are increasing the price of contracts for paper banking and are no longer accepting paper banking processes for their contracts.
This transition will allow Illinois S/FMNP participants to pay for produce conveniently and securely, and will allow for farmers to receive payment in a matter of days. This transition will also prevent farmers from accepting invalid checks. In addition, farmers will be auto-reimbursed, removing any issues with check rejection fees stemming from farmers depositing checks past the program deadline.
