Senior Support Fund

Senior Support Fund is sponsored by United Way of the Southern Tier. The United Way of the Southern Tier's Senior Supports Fund awards grants to organizations helping seniors across Chemung and Steuben counties.

Open Funding Cycle | United Way of the Southern Tier United Way of the Southern Tier will soon launch the application process for its next three-year funding cycle.

Eligible 501(c)3 non-profit health or human service organizations that serve residents of Chemung and/or Steuben counties and that have programs which directly align with one or more of these strategic focus areas are encouraged to apply: • Health & Well-Being of Seniors: Helping senior citizens who wish to remain in their homes as they age, where they are happy and comfortable.

• Youth Opportunity: Building the skills children need to succeed, beginning at birth, setting them up for lifelong success. •​​​​​​​ Financial Security & Basic Needs: Ensuring that struggling families have access to financial education and stability, as well as the basics of food and shelter in times of crisis.

All funding decisions are guided by United Way of the Southern Tier’s investment values , which consider client need, program results, focused alignment, effective use of resources, and continuous learning and improvement. The funding process is highly selective, based on the degree to which a program aligns with United Way’s strategic intent as compared to all programs considered.

Those interested in applying must complete a Letter of Intent by Friday, September 18, 2026, for each program for which a request will be made. Programs will be invited to apply after a review of the Letter of Intent. Submission of a letter of intent, and any subsequent application, is not a guarantee of funding. All funding decisions are guided by the investment values of United Way of the Southern Tier, and program alignment with its strategic priorities in early childhood development, school readiness and success, basic needs, and senior independence.

Grants will be awarded for a period of one year (2027), with the possibility of additional award in the subsequent two years (2028 and 2029). Grant renewal will be based strictly on the availability of funds, program performance, and compliance with the terms of the Statement of Agency Agreement.
