Sleep and Circadian Kickstarter Grant The purpose of this grant is to encourage interdisciplinary research in sleep and circadian rhythms within Northwestern University.

These pilot grants are meant to collect data to support applications to outside funding sources (i.e. NIH, foundation, industry) or to respond to grant review critiques that indicate a clear need for preliminary data. Investigators at all levels are encouraged to apply. We anticipate funding one award per due date.

Only Northwestern University Faculty may apply The grant must include sleep and/or circadian components. Also, we strongly encourage including faculty from at least one Division/Department that is different than the PI’s primary Division/Department.

One of the investigators must have a background in sleep/circadian science Junior investigators are encouraged to apply to fund a project that can be used to leverage Career Development Awards (K-award or similar grant) or larger research grants (NIH, NSF, DARPA, foundation, industry, etc.) Project timeline: 12 months or less Resubmissions of prior applications are eligible Prior awardees must wait 2 years after the completion of a funded project to be eligible for another award.

Applications will be reviewed twice per year. The due dates are February 28 and September 15 of each year.

Sleep and Circadian Research Mentorship Grant The purpose of the mentorship grant is to allow medical or graduate students, residents, medical fellows and postdoctoral fellows the opportunity to work with a mentor to pursue a small research project (e.g. meta-analysis, secondary data analysis, retrospective chart review, etc.) and receive the guidance of an experienced investigator over the period of 1 year.

We anticipate funding one or two awards per due date. The Mentorship Grant is open to Graduate Students, Medical Students, Residents, Clinical Fellows and Postdoctoral Fellows in the Feinberg School of Medicine The mentor should have expertise in sleep and/or circadian science Medical Students working on AOSC projects are strongly encouraged to apply Funds up to $2,500 are available and will be deposited into a Mentor’s PI account.

The funds can be used for: Mentor effort; trainee travel; study supplies; other justifiable expenses as outlined in the budget. Up to three awards will be available annually Applications will be reviewed semi-annually. The due dates are February 28 and September 15 of each year.

Undergraduate Summer Scholarship The purpose of the Undergraduate Summer Scholarship is to allow a NU undergraduate interested in Sleep and Circadian Research the opportunity to gain experience during the Summer Term by working with faculty on various research projects.

We anticipate funding one award each summer.

Criteria The Undergraduate Summer Scholarship is open to all NU Undergraduates that have an interested in learning more about Sleep and Circadian Research and will include working directly with CCSM faculty during the Summer Term on various research projects Students that are interested in careers in research or medicine are strongly encouraged to apply One award will be available annually Applications will be reviewed annually.

The due date is May 20 of each year.
