Bronx Rising Initiative has secured and distributed over $200,000 in grant funding to Bronx-based small businesses that have been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and looting. Grants have ranged from $2,500 to $15,000 and focus on alleviating the economic hardships that have prevented establishments from reopening or that threaten to destroy the businesses that uplift Bronxites each day.

Oyate Group’s Entrepreneurship Program was established to confront the historical exclusion of Bronx residents and communities of color throughout the city from investment pipelines.

All of Oyate Group’s initiatives have a distinct goal of closing gaps in access to resources for marginalized communities, and we believe entrepreneurship is key to financial security and generational improvements to the quality of life in our city’s most underserved neighborhoods.

Oyate Group’s Entrepreneurship Program provides three local business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs with an investment of up to $50,000 and a robust 10-week training program including access to capital, a network of mentors, business and impact models, marketing plans, a coworking space and investor-ready pitch decks.

Participants of the program are selected through a Shark Tank-style competition, with first-place winners receiving $50,000, second place $25,000 and third place $10,000 in exchange for a percentage of equity that the Oyate Group can reinvest in its community programming. “Small business owners are the foundation of our community and we must protect them before it is too late.

It’s important that we get this critical funding directly into the hands of the business owners as quickly as possible. We cannot turn our back on the economic drivers of our community or we all will fall prey to corporate takeovers. Oyate Group will continue to fight to secure additional resources so we can ensure that our small businesses do not fail.
