Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Programs (DoD-wide) is sponsored by U.S. Department of Defense. The DoD SBIR/STTR programs provide competitive awards to eligible U.S.-owned small businesses (with 500 or fewer employees) for research, development, test, and evaluation efforts aligned to DoD missions with strong potential for commercialization and operational transition.
These are Congressionally-mandated set-asides to encourage domestic small businesses' engagement in research and development, scientific excellence, and technological innovation. Service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses are eligible and encouraged to apply, and veteran-owned small businesses may receive priority in evaluation for certain agency calls.
