(WCJB) - Alachua County Commission officials have announced the Small Grant Initiative (SGI) application is now accepting proposals from non-governmental, grassroots organizations and small businesses.

The maximum award limit for an individual proposal is $15,000, according to the press release, but it is unclear how many grants will be distributed. Alachua County Commission officials say the purpose of the grant is to support Alachua County residents living at or below 150% of the federal poverty level. Businesses eligible to win the grant must have fewer than 25 full-time employees and a net worth below $1 million. Only one application per organization is allowed.

The application opened July 3 and will close July 31 at 2 p. m. Small business owners interested in accessing the application can read the proposal process and rules on the website .

An optional informational session will be held July 16 at 1 p. m.
