This Appendix solicits proposals that will use microgravity simulation devices to test specific hypotheses regarding the effects of altered gravity on biological systems, including cells, tissues, microorganisms, plants, and whole organisms. Proposing investigators will have the option of using the Microgravity Simulation Support Laboratory (MSSL) at the Kennedy Space Center, or using microgravity simulation devices at other locations.
Proposals must address Space Biology research emphases, visions, and goals identified in the ROSBio-2016 Omnibus NRA or in the Space Biology Science Plan 2016-2025, and/or recommendations from the Decadal Survey. NASA intends to make up to 5 awards for a maximum of three years each, with a total budget of $300K each (direct and indirect costs), which can include travel to, and lodging near, the MSSL.
Appendix D, which will be released on or about August 16, 2017 can be found by opening the NASA Research Opportunities homepage at http://nspires. nasaprs. com/ and then linking through the menu listings "Solicitations" to "Open Solicitations."
Non-binding Notices of Intents (NOIs) are due September 14, 2017 at 5 PM Eastern Time, and full proposals, the technical section of which shall not exceed 15 pages, are due October 16, 2017 at 5 PM Eastern Time. Proposals must be submitted electronically by an authorized official of the proposing organization. Proposers may use either NSPIRES (http://nspires.
nasaprs. com/) or Grants. gov (http://www.
grants. gov) for proposal submission. All categories of U.S. institutions are eligible to submit proposals in response to this Appendix.
Principal Investigators (PIs) may collaborate with investigators from universities, Federal Government laboratories, the private sector, state and local government laboratories and other countries with the exception of China.
Every organization that intends to submit a proposal in response to Appendix D must be registered with NSPIRES, and such registration must identify the authorized organizational representative(s) who will submit electronic proposals. Instructions on how to register in NSPIRES are described in the omnibus NRA (ROSBio-2016).
Each electronic proposal requires the registration of the principal investigator and other participants (e.g. co-investigators). Potential proposers and proposing organizations are urged to access the system(s) well in advance of the proposal due date(s) to familiarize themselves with its structure and enter the requested information.

Research Opportunities in Space and Earth Science (ROSES) - 2025: A.4 Rapid Response and Novel Research in Earth Science is sponsored by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Science Mission Directorate (SMD). This omnibus research funding opportunity includes various program elements, with rolling submissions for Earth Science research through August 2026. Proposers to Earth Science using the NASA Center for Climate Simulation high-end computing facility must include specific budget details.
NASA published an RFI on September 12, 2026 seeking states willing to host and sponsor the new United States Space Academy, with responses due October 26 at 6 p.m. EDT through SAM.gov. Only a governor or a governor's designee may submit, and only once per state. The timeline demands groundbreaking by 2027, 300 students in temporary facilities in 2028, and a permanent campus by 2031. Here is what that structure actually means for universities, economic development agencies, and contractors in the states that compete.
Read articleThe U.S. Government Policy for Stopping High-Risk Life Sciences Research, released July 28, 2026 under EO 14292 and implemented at NIH through NOT-OD-26-101, replaces mitigation with prohibition. It bans dangerous gain-of-function research outright, gates potential DGOF behind government-wide review, and creates International Research of Concern — a research-security regime wearing biosafety clothing. Penalties run to five-year debarment and False Claims Act exposure.
