Spay/Neuter Grant Program (Georgia) is sponsored by Georgia Department of Agriculture (administered by GVMA Foundation). This program accepts applications from non-profit or government groups to receive reimbursements for spay/neuter surgeries in an effort to combat euthanasia rates in Georgia.

Submit procedures once weekly The Spay/Neuter Grant Program is entirely managed and overseen by the Georgia Department of Agriculture, which sets the guidelines, administers the funding, and ensures compliance with all state requirements. While the GDA manages the program and its funds, we act as a conduit, helping connect the grant funding with veterinarians across the state who can provide low-cost spay/neuter services.

The Spay/Neuter Grant accepts applications from non-profit or government groups to receive reimbursements for spay/neuter surgeries in an effort to combat euthanasia rates. As a participant, the GVMA Foundation collaborates with the GDA to extend the program’s reach by leveraging our network of member veterinarians.

Because the grant is only open to non-profits or government groups, veterinarians must be GVMA members to participate under the GVMA Foundation’s application. We encourage shelters and rescues to maximize their impact by partnering with a local GVMA member veterinarian. The GVMA Foundation collects information from our participating member veterinarians, who perform procedures in their local communities.

These veterinarians are reimbursed directly from the grant for the services they provide, as approved by the GDA. Fill out the form before the deadline. We submit member information (received through the form) under one application from the Georgia Veterinary Medical Association Foundation.

Once the application window has closed, GDA determines what funds will be allocated to the GVMA Foundation. Participating veterinarians will be reimbursed according to what is outlined in the application. You will receive a link to an online form where you can track each procedure.

You will submit a form for each procedure, and you will submit these once a week. Our Foundation Team sends a check for procedures submitted that week. It will take approximately 5-10 business days to receive your reimbursement check.

The amount you choose to charge is up to you, but we consider this an excellent opportunity to give pets in underserved areas a chance at a long, happy life. Partner with a GVMA Member Veterinarian Reach out to GVMA member veterinarians in your area and discuss how you can work together to offer low-cost spay/neuter services for the animals in your care.

Work with your partner veterinarian to schedule spay/neuter procedures for eligible animals. The veterinarian will handle all reporting and reimbursement through the GVMA Foundation’s program. Find a Participating Veterinarian Contact your local GVMA member veterinarian or ask your local animal shelter if they partner with a participating vet in this program.

What do we expect from participants? Keep proper medical records. We recommend all participants to apply a line item in the client’s receipt that the grant subsidy has been applied to the final cost of the procedure.

It is expected that you will participate . Meet with your team and share info about the program so they can offer it to clients and local rescues – we know you are busy. Put signs up in your lobby about the spay/neuter program so clients will ask your team about the program.

Host a pizza party for your team for every “fill in the number you would like to commit to” procedures your team completes and submits. Send pictures to us of participating pets with owner permission. We love to share your success stories.

Get notified for the next grant cycle. Applications are closed for the 2024 grant cycle, but you can be the first to know when the application period for the next cycle opens. Frequently Asked Questions Can I apply for direct payments through the Georgia Department of Agriculture?

If you have a 501(c)3 tax exempt status for your business (essentially your business is a non-profit) you can apply directly – otherwise, as a GVMA member, you are benefiting from our Foundation being a non-profit with the correct tax exempt status. Is there a set amount of procedures that can be completed by a participating veterinarian? There is no set amount or limit of procedures that a veterinarian or hospital can complete.

However, the goal is to spread the funds throughout the state among participating veterinarians, so occasionally we will limit the allocation of funds so others have the opportunity to participate. What time period does the estimate of procedures cover? Grant funds will be available for 12 months starting from the date that funds are made available for distribution.

Procedures dated before or after the allotted time will not be reimbursed . I have a new associate who joins in the middle of the grant cycle (after the application period is closed). Can they participate?

Unfortunately no, but we look forward to having their participation in the next cycle. The Spay/Neuter Grant Program is managed by the Georgia Department of Agriculture. This generous partnership is a collaborative effort to reduce euthanasia rates across Georgia and increase access to vital spay/neuter procedures for those facing cost restrictions.
