Pay It Forward: Northeast Kansas Animal Welfare Foundation Add Us On Google Add as a preferred source on Google TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - TOPEKA, Kan. — The Northeast Kansas Animal Welfare Foundation received recognition from Devaughn James Injury Lawyers as part of the firm’s “Pay It Forward” program.
The foundation funds animal welfare work across 29 northeast Kansas counties, from Nemaha in the north to Linn in the south and Clay in the west to Wyandotte in the east. Animal welfare organizations in this territory are eligible to apply for funding.
“We get to offer grant funding to help support spays and neuters, professional development, anything we can do to help the organizations fulfill their life-saving missions,” foundation president Justin Brokar said. The foundation awarded its 2026 spay and neuter grants recently. Devaughn James Injury Lawyers contributed $500 to the organization.
On behalf of DeVaughn James Injury Lawyers, we are honored to recognize this week’s “Pay It Forward” recipient, the Northeast Kansas Animal Welfare Foundation . We love what you all are doing in our community, and we’re excited to contribute $500," attorney Cody Classen said in the presentation.
“Thank you, DeVaughn James, for allowing us to unleash generosity throughout northeast Kansas to help pets in need,” foundation president Justin Brokar responded. “We plan to use this $500 gift to increase the amount of spays and neuters that we can sponsor this year to help get more animals spayed and neutered,” Brokar told 13 News.
Grant programs and volunteer opportunities The foundation offers seven grant areas, including Cruelty Stoppers, which does not have a deadline. Professional development scholarships and technology grants are coming soon. The group is also a member of Home to Home, a program that helps keep pets out of shelters by placing them from one home directly into another.
The foundation is seeking volunteers in several areas, including general opportunities, animal advocacy, county advocates, grant selection committee members and the board of directors.
