Individuals and organizations applying for the SAHAT grant compete for the opportunity to develop new technologies that promote independent living for severely-disabled Veterans. The innovations funded by the SAHAT grant have included voice-recognition technology, home adaptations, mobile apps, and safety monitoring devices.

VA welcomes hearing about new ideas and innovations that can enhance Veteran quality of life and independence at home. *Note : The intent of the grant is to increase the research into and advancement of the technologies that can enhance the quality of life of severely-disabled Veterans. Awarding the SAHAT grant should not be construed as an endorsement of the entities or technologies developed by the SAHAT awardees.

There are many emerging technologies that could improve home adaptions or enhance a Veteran's or Servicemember's ability to live independently. Below are some of the innovations VA has funded each fiscal year through the SAHAT grant.
