The State Urgent Need (SUN) Fund is available following natural disasters and events that are not eligible for federal disaster assistance. Eligible applicants are non-entitlement local governments subject to a Governor's disaster proclamation and have determined that local or other funds are not available or sufficient to address disaster damage.
Disasters that have received a federal declaration of disaster, or for which the Governor's Request for Presidential Disaster Declaration has been submitted/is pending, are not eligible for SUN funding. SUN funding is available to repair, replace, rehabilitate, or improve public infrastructure impacted by a natural disaster, including mitigation measures appropriate to the project.
Funds cannot be used for: Repair costs that are covered by insurance or other funding sources Temporary improvements or emergency measure that are not a long-term solution Redundant or backup systems Repair of residential or commercial properties Costs of preparing an application for funding Determine and prioritize what needs assistance by requesting Texas Department of Emergency Management for a Preliminary Damage Assessment .
For Drought funding, your community must be on the Texas Commision on Environmental Quality 180-day list . Email CDBGApps@TexasAgriculture. gov to request a preliminary call.
After the call with TDA staff has been completed, an application form may be initiated for your community. Applications are accepted "first-come first-served".
