The grant program is intended to support high-need Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) in establishing safe, healthy, and supportive learning opportunities and environments, and to prevent and respond to acts of bullying, violence, and hate that impact our school communities at individual and systemic levels. The New York State Education Department awarded Stronger Connections Grant Funding to 44 LEAs across New York.

Federal appropriators added $15 billion in new Pell Grant funding to the FY 2026 appropriations package on top of the standard appropriation level — a response to a structural shortfall that CBO scored at $5.4 billion in FY 2026 and $11.5 billion in FY 2027.
