Support for Research Excellence (SuRE) Program (R16) | National Institute of General Medical Sciences The SuRE program supports research capacity building at eligible higher education institutions through funding investigator-initiated research in the biomedical, clinical, behavioral, and social sciences that falls in the NIH mission areas. Eligible institutions must award undergraduate (B. S.
or B. A.) and/or graduate degrees in biomedical sciences, have received no more than $6 million per year (total costs) from NIH Research Project Grants (RPGs) in each of the preceding two fiscal years at the time of application submission, and enrolled at least 25% of undergraduate students supported by Pell grants for the two most recent years of reported data.
Support for Research Excellence (SuRE) Award SuRE ( R16-Clinical Trials Not Allowed ; PAR-25-414 ) awards support faculty at eligible institutions who are not currently funded by any NIH Research Project Grants (RPGs) with the exception of SuRE or SuRE-First awards.
Support for Research Excellence - First Independent Research (SuRE-First) Award SuRE-First ( R16-Clinical Trials Not Allowed ; PAR-25-415 ) awards support faculty at eligible institutions who have not had any prior independent, peer-reviewed, external research grants.
For more information on SuRE-First and SuRE, potential applicants are encouraged to reach out to the scientific appropriate Institute, Center, or Office Scientific/Research Contact listed in Section VII of the NOFO of interest. For research projects relevant to the NIGMS mission, applicants are encouraged to send an email to: NIGMSSuRE@nih. gov .
Resource Center for the SuRE Program A SuRE Resource Center (U24) has been established to enhance the administrative research infrastructure of SuRE-eligible institutions and to provide services to advise investigators who are interested in applying for a SuRE R16 award.
