The Tessa Sutton Foundation Providing sunshine throughout life’s storms Support to Families & Individuals We provide support to those battling cancer or catastrophic illness throughout Illinois to help directly support them against the challenges they face. We fund and maintain a “Sunshine Cart” at OSF Children’s Hospital of Illinois to provide patients and their families items to help them during their time at the hospital.
We engage our community through events like the Team Tessa 3v3 Soccer Tournament to raise support and increase awareness of pediatric cancer issues. Tessa’s own ideas to support the community The Tessa Sutton Foundation was created in honor of Tessa Sutton, a central Illinois teenager who was diagnosed with a rare form of sarcoma cancer during her freshman year of high school in 2021.
When it became apparent a cure was not to be, Tessa helped her family create the foundation that bears her name. She had many ideas of how she wanted to give back and “pay forward” the incredible community support shown to her and her family. NCI Continuing Umbrella of Research Experiences (CURE) Academic Career Excellence (ACE) Award (K32) is a grant from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) that funds early postdoctoral fellows from diverse backgrounds, including underrepresented groups, to pursue research training in cancer-related fields. The K32 award supports fellows within 12 months prior to transitioning into, or within the first two years of, a postdoctoral position. The program, operated through NCI's Center to Reduce Cancer Health Disparities (CRCHD), aims to enhance the pool of qualified diverse cancer researchers. Beginning with the June 12, 2025 due date, the CURE ACE Award is available in both Independent Clinical Trial Required and Independent Clinical Trial Not Allowed versions. Eligible applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents at time of award.
