Discretionary/Competitive Grant Programs | Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) Discretionary/Competitive Grant Programs Discretionary/Competitive Grant Programs The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), signed into law on November 15, 2021, reauthorized federal surface transportation programs through September 30, 2026.
This historic opportunity sought to repair one-in-five miles of our roadways and more than 45,000 bridges in the United States.
The IIJA included funding to rebuild and reinvest in our railways, public transit infrastructure, and the safety of our transportation system and invest billions in transformational projects that helped create good-paying union jobs, grow the economy, and improve the safety and resiliency of our transportation system.
Request MDT Grant Support If your organization is interested in applying for a grant opportunity and is requesting MDT support, please complete the MDT Grant Support Request Form . Support can include: Better Local Bridge Grant (Reopening for Fiscal Year 2027 awards in October 2026.)
