Mount Airy/Surry County Community Foundation awards grant to Surry/Stokes Friends of Youth Mount Airy/Surry County Community Foundation awards grant to Surry/Stokes Friends of Youth The Mount Airy/Surry County Community Foundation , a North Carolina Community Foundation affiliate, has awarded a grant of $1,730 to Surry/Stokes Friends of Youth (SFoY) .

The grant will support SFoY with funding for food and venues for youth classes, community events, mentee groups, and training sessions. The mission of SFoY, which has been serving the community since 1976, is to advocate for the needs of youth.

They provide a variety of services, including skills-focused counseling, youth violence prevention classes, community service/restitution facilitation, mentoring, juvenile life skills classes, substance use prevention education, substance abuse disorder screening, and substance abuse treatment.

“The Surry/Stokes Friends of Youth have a long history of serving our community’s young people and we’re pleased to support them with a grant this year. ” said Sam Wagoner Jr., advisory board president of the Mount Airy/Surry County Community Foundation. Funds for 2025 grants came from the Mount Airy/Surry County Community Foundation’s community grantmaking fund.

Each year, the community foundation’s advisory board uses dollars from its endowment fund to make grants to eligible local organizations, including nonprofits, local governments, schools and churches. The grants are a portion of community support provided by the Mount Airy/Surry County Community Foundation this year. Earlier this year, they granted $75,000 through the NCCF Disaster Relief Fund.
