Programa de Subvenciones a la Sostenibilidad En Español ## What does sustainability mean to Englewood? The City of Englewood defines sustainability as a city that stewards its resources for the benefit of current and future generations. The sustainability grants are intended to further sustainability through projects that will have lasting impacts in the City of Englewood.

## Funding Available and Project Types Community groups, businesses, or individuals can apply for up to $1,000 for their Englewood-based sustainability project.

The most successful projects will engage community members in sustainability work, implement sustainable practices to areas most in-need, and will encompass one or more of the following sustainability sub-sections: * **Water Protection:** Protection of water resources, including rivers and streams * **Built Environment and Infrastructure:** Infrastructure designed and maintained in an economic, equitable, and ecological manner * **Natural Environment:** Protection of our natural environment * **Climate Action:** A community that addresses current and future environmental, economic, and social climate vulnerabilities through implementing economically viable climate adaptation and mitigation projects and practices.

* **Economic Resilience:**A local economy that can foresee, withstand, adapt to, and recover from adversity * **Energy:** Programs, policies, and initiatives designed to encourage renewable, affordable, and accessible energy * **Waste and Recycling:** Increase recycling and composting efforts and diversion of waste There are many types of sustainability, and due to the diversity of sustainable practices, there are many projects you could use this grant funding for!

Some project ideas include: * Host a community event (native plant workshop, screening of a documentary, etc.) * Recycling or composting training * Host a zero waste community potluck * Start a sustainability related club * Host a rain barrel workshop **Commercial/Non-Profits** * Publicly accessible, free herb garden * Host E-Waste Recycling Event * Start a tool lending library * Host an E-Bike or EV Demo (where applicable) * Recycling or composting training * Publicly accessible bike work stand * Tree plantings in areas publicly accessible * Sustainability themed mural * Sustainability related field trips * Start a school green team * Recycling or composting training * Upcycled crafts activity * Walk/Bike to School Event 1.

Fill out the Grant Budget Form 2. Upload the completed Grant Budget Form with the application at the time of submission 3. Fill out the Application _(Grant Application Submissions Are Now Closed)_ * **Applications will close April 30.

** * If there are additional funds, applications may be re-opened with review occurring on a first-come-first-serve basis. * Applicants will be notified of results within a month of submission. * To be awarded, applicants will need to provide a detailed timeline in the application to prove that the project can be **completed by December 31**.

* Projects must be located within the City of Englewood and cannot be on private property for the primary benefit of the homeowner. * Must identify at least one person to serve as the project coordinator. * All projects must include permission from the property owner or entity that is responsible for the maintenance of the project location.

* Grants are not to be used for the purchase of land or to subsidize social, political, or organizational memberships. * Grants are to benefit the Englewood community. The funds are not to be used to pay individuals, organizations, or groups for their private benefit.

* Grants are not to be used for cash prizes. * Grants may be used for field trips or admissions for sustainability educational purposes. * Grants are intended for implementation activities (programs, structures, events, or projects); planning efforts are not to be included.

Grant funds may not be used for operational or maintenance costs, or salaries. Funds shall also not be used for motor vehicles, or any other electronic devices not required for the grant purpose (such as cell phones, tablets, etc.). * All applicable permitting fees remain in effect.

City permits are still required and are not waived as a part of the grant process. Fees for items including, but not limited to building permits, fence/wall permits, and sign permits must be submitted to the City of Englewood prior to construction/installation. Please keep this in mind when formulating your grant budget.

* Projects must be implemented and maintained by the project coordinator. * A completed grant budget form must be completely filled out and uploaded to the application form at the time of submission. * If you are awarded the grant, upload a photo and a brief description here once the project is complete.

**NOTE:**This grant will provide the funds up-front and requires a budget form detailing planned expenses to be submitted at the time of application. The sustainability grant offered is not taxable, provided that the conditions for receiving and using the grant are adhered to. This grant for sustainability efforts is tax-free if applied to intended expenses, such as materials and equipment.

Failure to provide proof of expenditures or non-approved expenditures may cause the grant to count as taxable income. ## **Sustainability Grant Evaluation Criteria** All applications are reviewed by a committee that will include a cross-departmental team of City staff.

The review committee will consider the following factors when evaluating grant applications: Sustainability Grant Evaluation Criteria ## Colorado’s EnviroScreen Tool EnviroScreen is an interactive tool used for environmental health screening to identify areas with disproportionate environmental health risks. This tool will be used as part of the evaluation for grant applications received.

While it is not a requirement for applicants to be located in an area with disproportionate environmental health risks, an application will receive 10 points for the project being located in an area where the EnviroScreen score is above the 80th percentile.

Utilizing this score as part of the evaluation process will allow resources to be directed toward areas that have disproportionately high environmental health risks within our community. More information about the EnviroScreen tool can be found here.
