Louis Launches 2025 Targeted Funding Cycle _Investing over $400,000 in the region to Unite for Safe Communities_ St. Louis, MO (August 7 th, 2024) – United Way of Greater St.
Louis announces the launch of its 2025 Targeted Fund Application Cycle – Unite for Safe Communities- aimed at improving community safety by improving social determinant factors that bolster community safety, affecting where we live and where our children grow across the region. This $400,000+ investment underscores our commitment to creating a safer, healthier community for all residents.
As our community continues to face challenges because of varying types of violence, our 2025 targeted grants seek to identify and support innovative programs that address the results of violence such as mental distress and reduced quality of life, as well as those that seek to mitigate future occurrences. Nonprofit organizations that provide violence prevention and trauma informed approaches are encouraged to apply.
“Our mission is to empower individuals and families while fostering a sense of safety and well-being in our community,” said Michelle D. Tucker, President and CEO of United Way of Greater St. Louis.
“By funding initiatives that address the impacts of violence and areas such as supportive mental health services, we aim to better resource a comprehensive support system that promotes long-term solutions. ” Targeted Fund awards are considered one-time grants with a one-year timeframe for United Way investment.
Proposed programs should have existing sources of funding where United Way’s investment is leveraged to ensure sustainability beyond the Targeted Fund’s one-year grant time frame. **Key Dates for the Targeted Fund cycle include:** * September 3rd Cycle opens, and the application will be available. * September 9th Informational Webinar for any organization interested in learning more about the grant.
Reserve a spot here. * September 13th and September 20th Virtual Office Hours will be available for any potential applicant to ask questions of United Way staff about the cycle. * September 27th Application Deadline.

Rather than being forced to take a distribution that can raise your taxable income, many donors use their RMDs to make a Qualified Charitable Deduction (QCD). A QCD excludes the amount donated from taxable income and may reduce the impact to certain tax credits and deductions, including Social Security and Medicare. Also, QCDs don’t require that you itemize on your taxes.
There are certain requirements that must be met to use your RMD as a QCD, including: * You must be 70 ½ or older to be eligible to make a QCD. * At age 73 you are required to take a distribution from your retirement accounts. * QCDs are limited to the amount that would otherwise be taxed as ordinary income.
This excludes non-deductible contributions. * The maximum annual amount that can qualify for a QCD is $108,000 for individuals and $216,000 for married couples. * For a QCD to count towards your current year’s RMD, the funds must come out of your IRA by your RMD deadline, generally December 31.
