Taylor Rural Improvements Grant - Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation Taylor Rural Improvements Grant Taylor Rural Improvements Grant The Taylor Rural Improvements Grant seeks to support capital projects that can make a big impact in the vibrancy of small towns. SMIF offers up to $20,000 for projects in communities located in our 20-county region with populations under 10,000.
For 2026, a pplications must be for capital projects to create or provide enhancements to community gathering spaces. Community spaces must be free and open to the public. Community gathering spaces provide small-town residents with places to connect outside of home and work, strengthen social bonds and foster a sense of belonging.
These shared spaces support community resilience by encouraging civic engagement, reducing social isolation and creating opportunities for collaboration, local culture and economic activity. Examples of projects include, but are not limited to: bandstands, library community rooms, community centers, pocket parks, alleyway beautification and seating, etc. This grant opens September 8.
