The Bartol Foundation, in collaboration with the Marrazzo Family Foundation, offers micro-grants to Philadelphia-area teaching artists. These grants support hands-on community arts projects, professional development, or essential teaching materials.

Teaching Artist Awards - Bartol. org Skip to content Teaching Artist Awards Bartol Teaching Artist Award The Bartol Teaching Artist Award will provide 10 unrestricted grants of $2,500 to Philadelphia-based artists providing consistent, accessible arts education benefiting communities they are in deep relationship with.

This award invests directly in freelance or independent teaching artists as they design and implement meaningful programs benefiting youth and adults in Philadelphia, and sustain themselves as vital culture bearers and changemakers in their communities.

With lead funding from Marrazzo Family Foundation, this award is designed to provide teaching artists the opportunity to develop their skills, strengthen their connections with their community, and focus on developing visionary new approaches to arts education in Philadelphia. *Past recipients of Marrazzo/Bartol Teaching Artist Micro-Grants are eligible to apply. Without the consistent support of an institution, independent teaching artists often lack the material resources to take professional risks, invest in the development of their practice, or make major purchases of material or equipment.

2025 Arts Education Grantee; Tiny Farm Wagon Philadelphia-based teaching artists who; Are providing consistent, accessible arts education of any discipline that propels communities in Philadelphia forward Have a sustained commitment to providing community-engaged arts education, built on a deeply mutual relationship Have lived and worked in Philadelphia for at least 2 years Work in some capacity as an independent contractor, freelancer, or are self-employed Defining “Community-Engaged” Teaching artists can have an impact that reaches beyond the classroom as organizers of people, stewards of culture, activists for justice, and champions of shared knowledge.

Community-engaged teaching artists are powered by their students, mutually investing in them through highly specialized artistic skills or culturally-specific education. We fund artists who can define their community, and how it influences their approach to creative education. Applications are reviewed and selected by a peer panel, including previous grantees and Bartol board members.

Funding Partnerships Maximize Impact Since 2023, Bartol has awarded 60 micro‑grants of $1,000 to Philadelphia‑area teaching artists thanks to the partnership and support of Marrazzo Family Foundation.

These grants supported hands-on community arts projects, professional development, or essential teaching materials—with an emphasis on active participant engagement. These 60 micro‑grants were designed to advance the practice of teaching artistry at the intersection of arts, healing, and social justice.

A peer panel—including past grantees and board members—selected awardees, ensuring that the funding reflected both artistic vision and community relevance. Bartol Foundation has a rich history of building mission-aligned philanthropic partnerships. In 2018-2020, Bartol collaborated with Small But Mighty Arts of CultureTrust Greater Philadelphia to award $500 micro-grants to Philadelphia-based teaching artists.
