Teaching with Primary Sources | Illinois State Teaching with Primary Sources Midwest Region Helping educators enhance students’ critical thinking, analysis skills, and content knowledge using the Library of Congress' collections. Teaching with Primary Sources (TPS) is the premier educational program by the Library of Congress.
The TPS Midwest Region at Illinois State University covers 11 states situated in the center of the United States, from Nebraska to Ohio. The Teaching with Primary Sources Midwest Region is no longer accepting proposals for the current funding cycle but anticipate additional funding in September 2026. The Midwest Region will continue to accept Notices of Intent from groups interested in pursuing grant funds in the next funding cycle.
The Midwest Region offers grants up to $25,000 to projects that support the Library's mission and goals. Grants are awarded year-round and have no submission deadline. Across its 11 states, the Midwest region has granted to over 180 unique partners!

Fall 2026 Workshop: Fundamentals of Primary Source Instruction Learn to utilize digital primary sources from the Library of Congress and create source collections that engage students in active learning! Join us for a blend of asynchronous assignments and virtual meetings.

Announcing New & Continuing TPS Regional Grantees The Library of Congress is excited to announce the new and returning partners for the TPS Regional Program. The Midwest Region is excited for the opportunity to continue serving 11 states across the Midwest.
2025 TPS Regional Partners Summer Teach Disability History Conference Join K-12 teachers, instructors of pre-service teachers, disability historians, disability studies educators, and disability rights advocates from across the U.S. in Des Moines, IA, to share resources and discuss ways to expand and strengthen the teaching of stories of disability history in schools.
This free day-long conference is organized by TPS Consortium members Emerging America and Keene State College. Lunch will be provided and teachers and disability advocates are eligible to receive $100 stipends to help defray cost of attendance.
