Ineligible Costs and Activities Proposals with the primary aim of informing the development and/or selection of an intervention for a given context, where the implementation component will be explored in a future project Studies that cannot feasibly be completed in the life cycle of the grant Etiological work, mechanistic, or epidemiological research, including epidemiological cohorts, unless an essential component of a focused study to develop implementation research approaches Clinical trials, validation studies, or intervention efficacy studies for a new or established pharmacological agent or behavioural intervention Eligible geographic areas Low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) High-income countries (HICs), for underserved populations including Indigenous populations Indigenous communities in Canada Relevance and quality of the project to the funding call.

Submit a provisional Stage 1 proposal through the joint submission and review process. If invited, submit the full Stage 2 proposal to GACD. Submit Stage 2 applications to GACD in English only.
If applying for CIHR funding, complete the CIHR Stage 2 application in one of the two official languages of Canada and submit it using ResearchNet.
Stage 1 proposals are checked for eligibility by GACD and funding agencies participating in the joint funding process Eligible Stage 1 applications are peer reviewed and scored by an independent panel The Call Steering Group decides which applications will be invited to submit a Stage 2 proposal based on peer reviewer recommendations and a triage panel Stage 2 proposals will be peer reviewed and scored by an independent panel At the joint peer review meeting, each application is assessed independently and a ranking list is developed for each funder The GACD staff provide ranked lists to the funding agencies to inform award decisions support-soutien@cihr-irsc.
