Technology Development Research for Establishing Feasibility and Proof of Concept (R21 - Clinical Trial Not Allowed) is a grant from NIH NIGMS that funds exploratory research leading to proof of concept for new technologies relevant to biomedical science. Awards of up to $275,000 over two years support high-risk, high-novelty projects developing new laboratory instruments, chemical reagents, biological molecules, or other research tools that can benefit a broad spectrum of biomedical research. Eligible applicants include academic institutions, nonprofits, and for-profit entities. Projects must not have established feasibility in prior literature or preliminary data. Technologies narrowly focused on specific biological questions or repurposing existing tools are not eligible. Note: This announcement has expired as of May 2026.
