jpeg 200px 200px The Technology, Engineering and Design Thinking (TED) Program opened in 2022 to teachers looking to enhance their students STEM/STEAM learning in the form of hands-on projects, classroom resources, curriculum supports, guest subject experts and professional development. As a new program, we welcome innovative and creative requests, but it can be hard to come up with project ideas from scratch!
Below are examples of how teachers have used this grant so far to get you thinking: A middle school brought the Bay Area Discovery Museum’s Try It Truck to their school, where 8th grade students provided support to their younger peers during three 1 hour STEM sessions. A middle school teacher purchased 12 BBC Micro-Bits and a STEM Project kit for 6-8th grade students to have programmable mini circut boards for to learn how to code.
50 high school students took a field trip to the Maker Faire in Vallejo where they had the opportunity to engage with various exhibits related to science, technology, robotics, engineering, arts and mathematics. A 3rd grade teacher purchased supplies for her 20 students to engineer and design 3D prototypes.
(Pictured to the right are the students watching their 3D prototypes being printed) Roosevelt Elementary’s 4th and 5th grades received grant funding for a variety of grade-wide projects including building a model town completely powered by solar energy, designing and building wind-powered solar cars, launching rockets they created, and building modal houses to be tested against different climate elements.
