We offer daily reading of the Bible Lesson, Church services, hymn sings, assistance with Christian Science study, walking paths on the property, eating at the cafeteria, and special monthly trips to local areas of interest, such as a formal garden, art museums, and even the Jersey Shore.

Tenacre offers transportation to the Princeton church (First Church of Christ, Scientist, Princeton) on Sundays and Wednesdays and regularly scheduled rides to and from Princeton throughout the week. Those who are at Tenacre for Christian Science nursing care are accompanied by a member(s) of the Christian Science Nursing Department, as needed, for support and safety. #### Do you provide physical therapy?

Can I go out for an appointment for physical therapy? Christian Science nurses encourage and support normal activity and movement. Our guests (patients) do not typically ask for physical therapy, but instead work for complete healing with a Christian Science Practitioner.

If you feel the need to visit a physical therapist while at Tenacre, please speak with Christian Science nursing management. #### Does Tenacre accept Medicare? No, although Tenacre does offer financial assistance.

Applicants can complete a financial disclosure form during the admission process. #### Can pets visit? Can pets stay over?

Pets can bring such joy to everyone! Please let us know of your interest. There are some guidelines to follow during pet visits.

#### If I need some financial help, what can I do to receive financial assistance? Tenacre may provide financial assistance when needed. There is an application to complete.

#### How do I get to Tenacre? Individuals can come by plane, train, or a service (car or ambulance) and can be accompanied by family or a private duty Christian Science nurse. For more information visit our Contact Us page » #### Can a child be considered for admission?

Yes, their applications will be considered with the understanding that their legal guardian will be with them at all times during their stay. #### Do I need to work with a Christian Science Practitioner every day while I’m receiving Christian Science nursing care at Tenacre?

It is our expectation that you will be praying for yourself daily and engaging a Christian Science practitioner to work for you as needed throughout your stay at Tenacre. #### What items can be brought from home? We recommend that only a few items be brought from home, such as clothing and toiletries for a short stay.

#### How would you describe the accommodations for those receiving Christian Science nursing care at Tenacre? Each individual has a private room and bathroom with a shower. The rooms include a bed, reclining chair, desk, closet, chest of drawers, and artwork.

Each building has common living and dining rooms for everyone to enjoy. #### What is expected of those coming to receive Christian Science nursing care at Tenacre? - Rely radically on God for healing as taught in Christian Science.

- Commune with God, with the purpose of spiritual growth and regeneration, for “growth in grace, expressed in patience, meekness, love and good deeds” (_Science and Health_, p. 4). - Work in harmonious partnership with Christian Science nurses and other members of the Tenacre community.

#### In a few words, what is a Christian Science nurse? Christian Science nurses are Christian Scientists. They provide spiritual reassurance and practical care for Christian Scientists relying exclusively on Christian Science for healing.

#### How often does Tenacre provide transportation to and from Princeton, NJ? We offer daily round trips to Princeton Monday through Friday. #### What is the nearest Amtrak train station?

The nearest Amtrak stations are Princeton Junction and Trenton, NJ. The Princeton Junction station is served by NJ Transit. #### What is the closest commercial airport to Tenacre?

Trenton (TTN) is the closest, about 20 minutes away. However, it is served only by Frontier Airlines. Newark Liberty International (EWR), with service by most major airlines, is an hour away.

The airport’s Air Train monorail takes you to Newark Airport train station where the Northeast Corridor train line takes you to Princeton Junction. Philadelphia (PHL), with service by most major airlines, is also an hour away. #### What are the cafeteria hours?

#### Do you conduct Christian Science church services at Tenacre? We offer a Sunday afternoon church service at 2:30 PM in the Chapel. #### How did your facility come to be called Tenacre?

In the 1800s, the Tenacre Poultry Farm was part of a farming community known as Cedar Grove. At the time, the property was about ten acres. George and Kathryn Barmore, Christian Scientists from New York, moved to Tenacre in 1912, after which they enlarged the house and transformed the grounds.

The Barmores started a rest home for Christian Scientists in 1922, with accommodations for three paying guests. By 1928, Tenacre was incorporated, had a staff of Christian Science nurses, and was caring for about 20 guests, all of whom were relying on God for healing.

To help ensure that Tenacre would continue beyond their personal involvement, the Barmores changed the corporation to a not-for-profit in 1935 and called it Tenacre Foundation to honor its roots. #### What are the nearby branch churches of Christ, Scientist? Branch churches can be found close by in Princeton, Trenton and Manville, NJ.

There is also an informal group in Hopewell, NJ. #### If I need some financial help, what can I do to receive financial assistance? Tenacre may provide financial assistance when needed.

There is an application to complete. #### How long can you care for me in my home? A Homecare visit may be up to 3 hours; if there is a need for a longer stay, this also may be arranged.

#### How much does it cost for a visit? Tenacre offers the first 4 hours each week complimentary. After 4 hours, the hourly rate is $50.

Donations are welcomed for these visits. #### May I receive Christian Science nursing at home if I don’t have a Christian Science practitioner praying for me? A Christian Science practitioner is required for visits needing Christian Science nursing care.

#### How soon can you come when I call you? When receiving your phone call, we’ll discern how immediate your need is, and then schedule a timely visit. #### How long are the courses?

The classroom and initial mentoring portion of each course is three to four months long. At least three months of mentoring is required after each course. #### Why so many months for each course?

Classroom work, practice sessions, and mentoring both in facility settings and in homes are included in each course. #### How much does it cost? The tuition is $300 per week.

Financial assistance is available directly from Tenacre. #### What about financial support for my living expenses? Students are hired as temporary staff members during the courses and paid a salary.

Yes. Students in all courses are paid bi-weekly; the amount increases with each course. #### Is there a place for me to stay at Tenacre?

There are accommodations for students on or near the Tenacre campus. #### How much will I have to pay to stay there? The accommodations are provided to students free of charge.

#### What about my meals? There is a cafeteria at Tenacre which provides breakfast, lunch, and supper every day. #### Do I have to pay for my meals?

Yes. Students pay a very reasonable staff rate for meals. #### Who can apply to Tenacre’s Christian Scientists-in-Residence program?

Tenacre invites Christian Scientists who are members of The Mother Church to join a Christian community bound by their commitment to the practice of Christian Science and their active participation in Tenacre’s mission and ministries. #### Are the cottages furnished? The cottages are unfurnished, ready for you to bring your own furniture.

We have studio, 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom cottages. #### What are the floor plans? Please call or email for specifics.

#### What is the monthly rent? Monthly rent ranges from $1400 – $2000 based on square footage. #### What's included in the rental cost?

The monthly rate includes: * Weekly housekeeping visits * Maintenance of the grounds/buildings and Tenacre’s appliances Additional services include Tenacre’s bus to downtown Princeton and Princeton branch church services, mail delivery, and the Spiritual Resource Library. The audio system, access to cable television, and the closed circuit Tenacre TV channel are offered at no charge. #### Are there additional costs?

Meals are offered at the Cafeteria at an additional cost. #### Who is eligible to apply for Progressive Living? Christian Scientists who need light assistance and desire to live in communal housing are welcome to apply.

Residents enjoy the many amenities of Tenacre’s campus while engaging in facility-sponsored activities such as volunteering at Tenacre, church, and the Reading Room, enriching both their own experience and that of Tenacre. #### What are the living quarters like? Residents of Progressive Living have private bedrooms and private bathrooms.

They share communal spaces, such as the kitchen, living room, and dining room. Residents may furnish their own rooms or opt to have their rooms furnished by Tenacre. Rooms come with a phone and TV antennas (residents must provide the TV), and have built-in access to 24/7 audio broadcasts of the weekly Bible lesson, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures and more.

Amenities like a mini fridge are available on request. Unfortunately, the Progressive Living program cannot accommodate pets. #### How much does Progressive Living cost?

Progressive Living has daily on-site activities and scheduled off-site outings. Daily activities on-site may include movie nights, group hymn sings, and game nights. Off-site outings may include trips to local museums, ice cream shops, and tours of local areas of interest.

Residents are encouraged to develop their own social activities as a community as well. Yes. Communal dining is available in our program dining room.

Residents also enjoy access to the cafeteria’s daily meals three times a day. A shared kitchen is available for the preparation of simple meals. #### Can I bring my own car?

Yes, and residents may come and go as they please. #### How close is the nearest church? Tenacre’s chapel is on-site on the campus.

Princeton’s First Church of Christ, Scientist, is approximately 3 miles away (~10 minutes by car). Trenton’s First Church of Christ, Scientist, is approximately 15 miles away (~30 minutes by car). #### Where is the closest Reading Room?

Princeton’s Reading Room is approximately 3 miles away (~10 minutes by car). Tenacre’s Spiritual Resource Library is on campus and available for study. Family are encouraged to visit.

Tenacre has accommodations on-site for visiting friends and family. There are no restrictive visiting hours. #### What services do Progressive Living residents have access to?
