2026 Tenant & Housing Justice Grant - Social Justice Fund NW Social Justice Fund Northwest (SJF) is pleased to announce the 2026 Tenant & Housing Justice Grant , open to grassroots organizations in Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and/or Wyoming. Please read the following information carefully before beginning your application.
Grant Awards: Two-year grants of maximum $25,000/year Focus : Tenant and housing justice organizing in Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming Organizations led by Black, Indigenous, and people of color (51% or more leadership) Organizations conducting most of their work with reservation communities, and/or in rural or small towns ( as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau ) Organizations with annual budgets $500,000 USD or less The application for this grant is closed.
Watch Informational Session This grant seeks to support organizations working to undo and/or create alternative solutions to exploitative housing systems which were built and are sustained by capitalism, colonialism, classism, racism, xenophobia, and ableism. This grant will fund organizations that meet SJF’s community organizing framework and prioritize communities underrepresented in traditional grantmaking.
Tenant and Housing Justice community organizing work can include, but is not limited to: Collective power building among tenants to dismantle and push against the current oppressive housing systems and structures Examples: rental and utilities assistance, tenants’ rights training, eviction prevention and intervention, etc. Local and statewide tenant and housing systems/policy change Tenant leadership development Creating collective, cooperative housing structures Re-entry organizing by and for folks who were recently incarcerated to provide housing and resources, influence and set policy, etc. Disability justice organizing focused on affordable, accessible, and supportive housing for disabled folks and elders Survivor-led organizing for people transitioning out of abusive situations For examples of work we’ve funded, take a look at past grantees: 2022 Displaced Tenants Fund 2021 Innovative, Just, and Equitable Housing Momentum Giving Project 2021 Forced Migration and Displacement Giving Project 2016 Housing Justice Momentum Giving Project Application Open: Monday, January 5, 2026 Informational Session: Tuesday, January 20, 2026 Application Deadline: Thursday, February 19, 2026 Grant Award Announcements: Late July 2026 Eligible organizations must meet the following criteria: Organizations that work within SJF’s community organizing framework Nonprofit organizations, tribal agencies, or groups sponsored by a nonprofit organization or tribal agency Organizations with 501(c)(3) or 501 (c)(4) status as determined by the IRS American Indian/Native American/First Nation Tribal Government or Agency Organizations that are fiscally sponsored by 501(c)(3) or 501 (c)(4) organizations or tribal governments/agencies SJF does not fund individuals, you must be an organized group of people We do not fund direct services unless they are connected to or intertwined with community organizing work.
