TGA Academic Scholarship is sponsored by Texas Gas Association. This scholarship is open to Texas high school graduates age 22 years or younger, entering their first year of college. Applicants must be a legal dependent of a TGA member company employee.

Supporting high-achieving high school graduates entering their first year of college. Eight $5,000 scholarships available annually, investing in bright minds to shape the future of the natural gas industry.

Two $5,000 scholarships for students entering their first year of specialized training in technical or industrial fields (certification/trade school). Open to recent graduates and current industry employees, kickstarting careers in the gas industry. Darrell Cherry & Linda Femal Scholarship Supporting full-time employees of TGA-member companies pursuing additional certifications or degrees.

Four $2,500 scholarships available annually. Designed to foster professional growth and lifelong learning within the gas industry. All applicants must submit a completed application, one-page essay, and list of activities by the deadline.

Selection is based on merit and overall application strength. Open to Texas high school graduates age 22 years or younger, entering their first year of college . Must be a legal dependent of a TGA member company employee.

Full-time enrollment is required in a four-year college or university program leading to an undergraduate degree. Technical/Trade Scholarship Available for Texas residents age 24 years or younger, pursuing technical or industrial training entering into their first year of college . Open to children of TGA member company employees or current employees themselves.

Ideal for those entering trade schools or technical programs. Darrell Cherry & Linda Femal Scholarship Exclusively for full-time employees of TGA-member companies. Supports pursuit of industry-relevant postsecondary credentials, from certifications to master's degrees.

The application deadline for all scholarship types is the last day of February each year . Please submit your application by this date to ensure you're considered. Can I apply for multiple scholarships?

Yes. You may apply for any TGA scholarship for which you meet the eligibility requirements. However, applicants may only be awarded one TGA scholarship per academic year.

In addition, recipients of a TGA Academic or Technical Scholarship are not eligible to receive the same scholarship again in subsequent years, as these awards are intended to support first-year educational expenses only. How are recipients selected?

The Scholarship Selection Committee conducts a thorough review of each applicant's submitted materials and applies a weighted scoring rubric to objectively assess qualifications, achievements, and overall merit.

For Academic and Technical scholarships the categories are: Dual Credit/AP/VOE or CTE participation in high school, Employment History, Extracurricular Activity, Community Service Participation, Essay: Need for Scholarship, Letters of Recommendation, and an optional bonus question.

For Post-Secondary scholarships, the categories are: Educational Ambition, Employment History, Community, Civic & Volunteer Participation, Essay: Need for Scholarship, Letters of Recommendation, Professional and Personal References, and an optional bonus question. Is the scholarship renewable? No. TGA scholarships are one-time awards and are not renewable.

How can I use the scholarship funds? Acceptable educational expenses include tuition, fees, textbooks, required course materials and supplies, technology and equipment necessary for coursework, housing, meal plans, and other reasonable costs directly related to enrolling in, participating in, and successfully completing an education program. Do I need to major in a specific field?

For Academic and Technical scholarships, there's no specific major requirement. The Darrell Cherry & Linda Femal Scholarship (Post-Secondary Education) should be relevant to advancing your career in the gas industry. How do I know if one of my parents works for an Active TGA member company to see if I qualify for the scholarship?

Check a full listing of TGA member companies, updated annually. (See separately on this page.) Is the use of AI allowed for writing of my scholarship application essays and personal qualifying information?

No artificial intelligence applications should be used to write this essay. Is the letter of recommendation required to be eligible for a scholarship? Our Academic and Technical scholarships request ONE letter of recommendation.

The Post-Secondary scholarship requests TWO letters of recommendation (and two professional references & one personal reference). Letters of recommendation should be on company letterhead and signed by the author. Letters should not have any applicant identifying information on them.

All identifying information will be redacted before grading can occur. Applicants who do not submit a letter of recommendation may still be eligible for a scholarship, however, will be taken into account during the grading process. Please explain the requirement for Needs-based eligiblity for a scholarship?

Per application requirements, "This scholarship is for students whose tuition is not fully covered by other financial aid. Recipients are ineligible if scholarships, grants, or tuition assistance exceed the cost of attendance. Partial funding from other sources is allowed, provided it doesn't cover the full cost of attendance.

Verification of other aid may be required." If all of your expenses are otherwise covered, you would not be eligible for a scholarship. Scholarships are on a need-basis. Can I apply for a TGA Scholarship if I took time off before starting college or technical school?

Yes. You do not have to enroll in school immediately after high school graduation to be eligible. Academic age requirement: 22 years or younger Technical age requirement: 24 years or younger Post-Secondary - no age requirement Applicants who meet the age requirements may apply if they are enrolling in the first year of an accredited college degree program, technical school, or certificate program.

For example, a student who graduated high school in 2025, took time away from school, and is enrolling for the first time in 2027 may still be eligible. The determining factor is not when you graduated high school, but whether you meet the age requirement and are entering your program and incurring first-year educational expenses. Scholarship funds are intended to support first-year educational expenses only.
