Meeting the Moment: December 2025 Updates | The Barra Foundation Meeting the Moment: December 2025 Updates At our December meeting, the Barra Board of Directors also voted to approve two additional Meeting the Moment grants addressing both the immediate and longer term needs of the sector: Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia ($50,000/12 months) for its Homeowner Assistance Fund , which will provide temporary mortgage payment assistance and other short-term aid for Habitat homeowners whose families have been impacted by the federal government shutdown and the lapse in SNAP benefits.

Habitat expects more families will be in urgent need for housing assistance based on the current economic crisis. Social Impact Commons ($200,000/24 months) to map, assess, and make recommendations for capacity building among fiscal sponsors , as well as facilitate deeper learning about the field among the grassroots nonprofit community and philanthropy.

This work is intended to strengthen the Greater Philadelphia fiscal sponsorship ecosystem so it may better rise to meet this moment of instability for the local nonprofit community.

Last month, Social Impact Commons assisted with financial analysis and recommendations for a financially unsustainable fiscal sponsor program, which raised the priority of building a better understanding of organizations in the region serving as fiscal sponsors and piloting new future models.
