This foundation supports programs that protect children from abuse and neglect. The Fathers Advocacy Network's work in identifying and highlighting systemic issues within child protection systems directly contributes to child abuse prevention through advocacy and accountability.

The Charles H. Stout Foundation Charles H. "Chick" Stout's noted career in newspapers and printing-related industry spanned more than a half a century.

Born in Winterset, Iowa, the fourth oldest in a family of six boys, he worked his way to a degree in accounting at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, as a Linotype operator at the University Press. After graduation, he became an instructor in newspaper management at the University. It was in Iowa City in 1927 that he also co-authored a book entitled "The Business Department of School Publications" with Harry S.

Bunker and future pollster George H. Gallup. The years 1929 through 1947 were spent in New York City as Vice President and Sales Manager for Matrix Contrast Corporation, with leave during World War II to serve as a U.S. Navy Commander in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters.

In 1948, college friend Bunker, then General Manager of Speidel Newspaper, recruited Stout to the Colorado Springs, Colorado headquarters of the eight- newspaper group as Assistant General Manager. In 1957, Stout was named Publisher of the Nevada State Journal and Reno Evening Gazette and Vice President of Speidel.

He became President of the transcontinental group in 1964 and continued to serve as a Director and Chairman of the Executive Committee until his retirement in 1976 when Speidel merged with Gannett Co. , Inc. Under his leadership, Speidel had grown to 13 daily newspapers and become the most profitable publicly-traded newspaper company in the United States.

Stout's career accomplishments earned him many honors as well as listings in "Who's Who in America" and "Who's Who in World Commerce." Active in numerous civic and professional groups, he furthered his support of worthy organizations with the formation of the Charles H. Stout Foundation in 1983, serving as Chairman of the Board Ermeritus at the time of his death at the age of 89.

The Charles H. Stout Foundation The Charles H. Stout Foundation encourages applications for grants from organizations which were actively supported by Mr. Stout during his lifetime or that would, in the opinion of the Trustees of the Foundation, promote values treasured by its founder.

Grants of the Foundation are made to organizations operated exclusively for charitable, scientific, literary, educational or religious purposes or for the prevention of child abuse and cruelty to animals. Grants shall be made only to organizations which have been granted federal tax-exempt status under section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code.

Preference is given to organizations that have low administrative and overhead costs so that the majority of the funds will apply to the primary need. Grant requests to fund capital improvements for such organizations will also be considered. Preference is also given to organizations in geographic localities where one or more members of the Foundation either reside or visit frequently.

The Foundation intends to remain flexible in the granting of funds from year to year. Consequently, pledge, annual or continuing grants will be made only in unusual circumstances. In order to reduce the amount of email/mail The Charles H.

Grant Applications for 2027 Our fiscal year runs from July 1 through June 30. The grant application process for 2027 is open from January 1, 2026 to June 15, 2026. Approved grants are dispersed from January 1, 2027 to June 30, 2027.
