Applying is simple. These FAQ’s cover the most common questions that applicants have about our application process, what to include in your application and how to submit it to us. Registered charities.

The trustees will occasionally consider applications from Community Interest Companies and other not-for-profit organisations. How much can you apply for? The minimum grant awarded, as of 16th April 2025, is £5,000.

There is no upper limit for a registered charity. A CIC or not-for-profit organisation can apply for up to £14,999. The trustees will not normally award all of the funding for a project and you should show how you hope to raise the rest of the funding, this could be from charging a fee for your services, fund-raising in the community or from other grant funding.

What kind of projects can be funded? All projects must benefit children, young people or adults with a disability who live in Devon or Cornwall. This includes physical, learning, mental and sensory disabilities.

The trustees will consider applications for a wide range of projects – activities, advice and support, capital projects such as new equipment or building work, core costs, salaries and training. Complete the online eligibility questionnaire. If successful, you will be directed to the online application form.

You will be able to attach any supporting documents to the online application. What supporting documents should be included? All applications will need to include a covering letter and a budget.

Most applications should include a cash flow forecast and set of annual accounts. If you are applying for capital funding you should include quotes and, where applicable, plans and architect’s drawings. When are grant applications considered?

The trustees review grant applications four times per year, in January, April, July and October. The cut-off date for applications is normally 4 weeks before the next meeting. Click here to see the latest meeting dates.

If your application has been successful you will be informed within 2-3 weeks from the date of the trustee meeting. If the trustees require further information, your application may be deferred until the next meeting. What happens if my application is successful?

You will be asked to sign a grant agreement and provide banking details. It would normally take a further 1-2 weeks before the grant funding is paid. Can my organisation apply every year?

No, successful applicants must wait two years before they reapply to The Clare Milne Trust. This allows the Trust to reach a wide range of projects within Devon and Cornwall. What can’t be funded by The Clare Milne Trust?

The Trust does not award grants to individuals or for projects outside of Devon or Cornwall. In order to apply for a grant your organisation should be a registered charity preferably based within Devon or Cornwall, and directly benefitting people with a disability living in Devon or Cornwall.

The trustees will occasionally consider an application from a CIC (Community Interest Company), or not-for-profit organisation, subject to a lower maximum grant level of £14,999. A CIC or non-profit organisation should follow the same application process as a registered charity. We will strive to offer as much grant support to as many charities and organisations as we can, throughout both counties.

This will be through our normal application review process, which occurs every three months. We carefully review all applications in respect of our trust objects and values for those living within Devon and Cornwall and therefore it is essential that applications show the impact on those living within these two counties.

If you think your project might be eligible for funding from The Clare Milne Trust, the next step is to complete the eligibility questionnaire . If your project meets the simple funding criteria you will be able to access our online grant application form. The application form is completed online.

You can save the form at any point and return to it within 30 days. You will be able to upload your cover letter and other supporting documents for your application at the end of the application form. A postal application will be accepted, but an online application is preferred.
