The Grant Program 'Support of the organic sector in Ukraine'

The Grant Program 'Support of the organic sector in Ukraine' is sponsored by Organic Initiative (supported by Switzerland, European Union, and International Renaissance Foundation). This program supports organic producers in Ukraine to overcome the current situation, preserve, and strengthen the capacity of the organic sector. It addresses direct losses, infrastructure destruction, and increased prices faced by agricultural producers.

The purpose of the Grant Program Undoubtedly, agriculture remains one of the important sectors of the economy as Ukraine has been an important global supplier of agricultural and food products for many years.

Direct losses as a result of occupation and direct hits, sea ports blockade, destruction of infrastructure facilities and supply chains, significant increase in the prices of fertilizers, fuel and logistics – this is not an exhaustive list of problems that agricultural producers have faced. Despite all the difficulties, Ukrainian organic farmers have already started their second sowing campaign in the conditions of a full-scale war.

It is important that organic production remains one of the priorities of agricultural production in Ukraine both for producers and the government.

The eligible applicants are organic market operators, service providers, public organisations and unions working in the field of organic production, circulation and labelling of organic products – legal entities residents in Ukraine. Phase 2 of the Grant Program implementing since August 2022 and some of the supported initiatives are implementing till September 2023. Results of the 2d phase already available by link . Phase 3 of the Grant Program implementing in May-June 2023.

The results of the phase 3 of the Grant Program are available by link – 24 organic operators will receive support in the total amount of CHF 90,000. In the frame of the Grant Program “Support of the organic sector in Ukraine” over 120 organic operators were supported for a total amount equivalent to USD 440,000.

The monetary fund of the Grant Program is formed from charitable donations and contributions of individuals and legal entities (residents and non-residents of Ukraine), targeted contributions of international projects / technical assistance programs and other revenues.

Switzerland within the framework of the Organic Trade 4 Development in Eastern Europe (OT4D) Program implemented by IFOAM – Organics International in partnership with HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation and Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL) and the Swiss-Ukrainian Program “Higher Value Added Trade from the Organic and Dairy Sector in Ukraine” implemented by the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL, Switzerland) in partnership with SAFOSO AG (Switzerland) – 230,000 CHF .
