How to Apply – Maryland – The Kahlert Foundation Applying for a grant is done through an online grant management system. To apply, follow the steps below: Review the grant guidelines to ensure you qualify for a grant from The Kahlert Foundation. Click here to access the grant management system.
After clicking the link, you will need to do one of the following: New User: register and create an account. After logging in you will be taken to your dashboard. Click the “Apply” button at the top of the page to go to the application.
From there, please use the appropriate access code described below. Please note , an organization that has not received funds from The Kahlert Foundation in the past is considered a First-time grantee and is required to complete an LOI for a new request to be considered. Enter access code MATLOI at the top of the “Apply” page, and you will be directed to the Letter of Intent or LOI under the First-time Grantee process.

If you have any questions about how to use the online grant management system, please contact Wally Hernandez. The board meets three times a year on the schedule indicated below.
This schedule outlines our grant application deadlines for returning applicants. New grantees must complete a Letter of Intent (LOI) at least 90 days prior to the full grant request deadline. The earlier a new LOI and grant application is received, the greater the likelihood the grant will be reviewed and presented at the corresponding board meeting.
Organizations will be notified of the decision by the board of directors approximately two weeks after the board meeting. The Foundation regrets that our resources are limited and are unable to support all good ideas and proposals. The Kahlert Foundation’s fiscal year runs from July 1 to June 30.

Improving Veteran Mental Health Grant Program is a grant from The Cigna Group Foundation that funds nonprofits providing housing stability and wraparound support services to improve the mental health of military veterans. The Foundation committed $9 million over three years addressing housing instability and its mental health impacts, as an estimated 40,000 veterans go without shelter nightly and 1.5 million are at risk of homelessness. Funded programs include mortgage and rental assistance, employment re-entry training, and housing development for veterans. Eligible nonprofits must leverage evidence-informed programs and align with at least one goal: increasing permanent housing, improving housing affordability, or enhancing wraparound services for veterans transitioning from shelters.
