WFMD General Counsel, Professor, University of Miami School of Law Alliance for Infant & Maternal Health Intern In 1993 in the wake of Hurricane Andrew’s destruction, a small group of dedicated women made a decision to transform the lives of women and girls in Miami. With just $5,000, they founded The Women’s Fund Miami-Dade and set out to fill the huge funding gaps in programs working with girls and young women.

Our Founder, Marilynn Gladstone Founder, The Women's Fund Miami-Dade Marya Meyer is the Chief Executive Officer of The Women’s Fund Miami-Dade, dedicated to creating a metropolis where power and possibility are not limited by gender. The Women’s Fund reengineers support systems for women and girls through grantee partnerships, advocacy, research, and leveraging collective impact.

Investing for over three decades in transformative initiatives, they are building a Miami-Dade where women and girls rise to leadership, achieve equal opportunity, can access equitable health care and are free from violence.

As the past One Billion Rising’s Global Coordinator for Miami, Marya worked with V (formerly Eve Ensler), V-Day Board Member Lisa Schejola Akin, and activists across the globe since 2012, when this grassroots movement united ordinary citizens and stakeholders to create the awareness and solidarity necessary to end the staggering statistics of gender violence, locally and globally.

Focusing on the most significant challenges facing the South Florida community, Marya and key partners coordinated powerful grassroots RISINGS which subsequently transformed into a partnership with The Women’s Fund Miami-Dade to lead monthly meetings where public and private entities, government civil servants, activists, volunteers and all those concerned with creating Freedom from Violence could join forces and resources, including on the key issue of Human Trafficking.

She served as Co-Chair of the Community Outreach Working Group of The Official Stop Sex Trafficking Campaign of the Miami Super Bowl Host Committee, with lead partners, The Office of the Miami-Dade State Attorney and The Women’s Fund Miami-Dade, of which she is past Board Chair.

Marya is a bilingual English/Spanish Music and Artist Marketing Executive who prior to becoming a non profit leader, had over 25 years of international experience in the realms of entertainment and contemporary culture, Media and Artist Relations, notably having served Vice Presidential roles at the non-profit Latin Recording Academy (Latin GRAMMYS) as well as Sony Music Spain and Universal Music Latin America.

At The Women’s Fund Miami-Dade, we work collaboratively in our community to improve the quality and equality of opportunity for women and girls to thrive through our four pillars of focus: economic mobility, leadership, health & well-being, and freedom from violence. Senior Director, Research & Collective Impact Viviana Alvarado Pacheco is the Senior Director, Research & Collective Impact, at The Women’s Fund Miami-Dade.

She leads the organization’s research, data, and policy programs, spearheading all research projects and policy initiatives, including the Gender Equity Dashboard, Gender Equity Index, and the WFMD Policy Agenda. She holds a Master’s degree in International Affairs, Conflict Resolution, and Civil Society Development from the American University of Paris and a Bachelor’s in International Studies from Virginia Tech.

Throughout her professional career, she has focused on gender issues, reproductive rights, and closing the gender data gap. Having lived in different countries, Viviana has experience working in various international environments where she has been able to perfect her language skills in English, Spanish, and French.

She is a fierce advocate for women’s rights, reproductive justice, and climate change action, promoting a better world for future generations.

Vero completed Executive Programs of Social Impact Strategy from the University of Pennsylvania, Negotiation, and Decision Making from Harvard Business School, ROI Marketing course from ROIMI where she is currently an Associate Partner, a master’s degree in Marketing from Levy Marketing Institute, and a bachelor’s degree in Advertising & Communications from IAA.

At Fox Networks Group, she oversaw the sales strategy for the regional and local offices. Vero has also been working with Big Brothers Big Sisters in the non-profit sector and volunteering for other hig h-impact organizations, such as Social Impact Movement, Endeavor, Vital Voices, WE Evolution, Bridges Unite, United Way, and Miami Youth Orchestra.

Vero is determined to leverage her background in strategy, ma rketing, communications, and pa rtnerships for meaningful purposes. The keys to her success have been perseverance and authenticity.

Director, Advancement & Donor Impact Amy Vega is a Development Coordinator at The Women’s Fund Miami-Dade, where she supports fundraising and programmatic efforts that advance the organization’s mission of improving the lives of women and girls throughout Miami-Dade County. She holds a B. A.

in Economics from Florida International University. Her work includes donor outreach, grant and funding initiatives, event coordination, and collaborating with her team to build resources for equity-focused programs. Amy brings a background in nonprofit and community work, where she developed strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills working with diverse groups of people.

These experiences shaped her passion for helping others and her commitment to public service. She is passionate about being part of a mission that directly benefits women and girls in her own community, and believes that public service focused on women and girls is essential to building a stronger, more equitable Miami-Dade.

Programs & Operations Associate Daniella Luna is the Programs & Operations Associate at The Women’s Fund Miami-Dade. She leads our Impact Collaboratives program as well as our Internship Program. Daniella also serves as a Board Member for the Young Professionals Board of Casa Familia Inc. Daniella received her B.

A. degree in International Relations from Boston University with a Track in International Systems and World Order with a specialization in Latin America. Daniella started her journey with The Women’s Fund Miami-Dade as an intern in her earlier college years and joined the team full-time upon graduation.

Daniella is deeply committed to fighting for human rights, equality, combating poverty, and advocating against discrimination in all its forms. She is particularly committed to the advancement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, believing firmly in the importance of sustainable and equitable development worldwide.

She hopes to continue to use her education and experience to aid The Women’s Fund in creating a positive impact for women and girls in Miami. daniella@womensfundmiami. org AIM - Project and Grants Manager Val Butler is the Project and Grant Manager for The Women’s Fund Miami-Dade Alliance for Infant and Maternal Health (AIM).

With over a decade of experience in public affairs and advocacy, Val has found her place as a thought leader in the community, promoting the impact of interdisciplinary partnership and cross-sector collaboration. In her role with the team, she supports the AIM project by fostering a cross-sector collective impact initiative that brings together key stakeholders to address maternal and infant health in Miami-Dade County.

A proud Miami native and alumna of Florida International University, where she earned her dual bachelor degrees in Business Administration and Health Services Administration, as well as her Master of Business Administration, specializing in Marketing. As a dedicated public servant, she strives to positively impact each organization and community she encounters.

Samantha Santana serves as the Development Coordinator at The Women’s Fund Miami-Dade. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a minor in Public Administration and certificate in Human Rights and Political Transitions from Florida International University. Samantha joined the team as a Development Intern in 2022 and shortly after started as the Development Assistant.

Samantha is particularly passionate about contributing to the empowerment of women, criminal law reform, and gun safety policy. She continues to use her academic background and skills to bring high-impact resources to the organization, with hopes of promoting positive change within the community for women.

Strategic Operations/Finance Assistant Research & Grants Associate Kayla Brock is the Research & Grants Associate at The Women’s Fund Miami-Dade, where she leads grant-funded research focused on Early Childhood Education and Infant & Maternal Health. Her work brings together community partners to advance equitable, collaborative solutions that improve outcomes for working families.

Previously, Kayla served as an Early Childhood Education Research Assistant, producing A Powerful Business Case for Early Childhood Learning & Childcare . In prior roles, Kayla served as Training & Community Engagement Coordinator at EMILY’s List, delivering training programs to support Democratic, pro-choice women running for office.

She has also worked as the North Carolina State Strategist for Relentless, where she led data-driven relational organizing efforts during the 2024 election cycle to increase voter engagement and turnout.

Marketing and Technical Admin | Studio Two Chair | Associate Director of Planning and Operations at Jorge Perez Metropolitan Center at Florida International University Dr. Maria Ilcheva is the Associate Director of Planning and Operations at the Jorge Perez Metropolitan Center at Florida International University. She has over ten years of experience in working on various economic development, social and behavioral projects.

She serves as subject matter expert in data analytics and behavioral research. Some of her recent research projects include Economic Impact of the Economic Impact of the Nonprofit Sector in Miami-Dade County , Make It Miami Manufacturing Report , Small Business, Big Impact , and the Miami-Dade Status of Women reports. Dr. Ilcheva holds a Ph.

D. in Politics and International Relations from Florida International University. Vice Chair | CEO and Founder, Brass Ring Ventures Miriam Altman-Reyes is a mission-driven leader, operator, and successfully exited founding CEO with 17 years of experience.

Currently, Miriam is Founder and CEO of Brass Ring Ventures, a firm supporting underrepresented, mission-driven entrepreneurs who are building tech-enabled companies that are increasing equitable access to education, workforce, and economic opportunity worldwide.

Providing advising, operator support, investment, and board service to a growing portfolio companies worldwide, Brass Ring Ventures was named one of the 2024 Edtech Venture Studios to Watch by Edtech Insider. Miriam is also a mentor for StartEd, the Transcend Network, and Gener8or accelerators.

Previously, as Co-founder and CEO of Kinvolved, the industry leader in efficacy-tested technology to elevate student attendance, Miriam led the company from idea through its exit in 2022 to PowerSchool, a public company backed by Vista Equity Partners.

At PowerSchool, she served as Vice President, Go-to-Market Strategy and Partnerships for the innovation group, where she worked cross functionally to drive early adoption of five new K12 and workforce products. Early in her career, Miriam was a public high school history teacher in the New York City Department of Education via Teach For America.

She has been an Education Pioneers Fellow, a two-time entrepreneurial fellow at Columbia University, and an Adjunct Professor in Social Entrepreneurship at NYU Wagner.

Her work has been recognized in global publications including the New York Times, Forbes 30 Under 30, Crain’s Business Journal, and Business Insider, and through awards from New York University, The University of Pennsylvania, the Robin Hood Foundation, Teach For America, and more. Miriam holds an MPA from New York University’s Wagner School of Public Service, an MA, Ed from Lehman College, and a BA with Honors from Brown University.

Claudia Sotolongo Gonzalez, CPA Treasurer | Principal, Kaufman Rossin's Tax Services Advisory Group Claudia is a principal in Kaufman Rossin’s Tax Services Advisory Group focusing on private client services.

She provides a variety of federal and international tax compliance, planning and consulting services for high net worth individuals and expatriates both within and outside of the U.S. She has provided accounting, tax and advisory services to a broad range of clients from closely-held business to trusts and individuals both domestically and abroad.

She has over 20 years of experience in tax advisory services in both Big Four firms and regional firms. Claudia is also Treasurer and Board Member of Whispering Manes Therapeutic Riding Center, as well as being involved with The Women’s Fund Miami-Dade. She is a Certified Public Accountant in the state of Florida.

She is fluent in both English and Spanish. Associate Attorney Customs and International Trade Law, Olsson Frank Weeda Terman Matz PC Denise Calle has served the Women’s Fund of Miami-Dade since 2020 as Board secretary and chair of the Governance committee.

Her background as a bilingual Attorney with OFW Law in the practice area of customs and international trade provides an international perspective on the complexity of issues relating to forced labor and supply chain and the role of women in international trade.

Ms. Calle is uniquely positioned to assist foreign and domestic businesses, manufacturers, distributors, importers, and exporters as she has extensive experience in a range of import compliance, regulatory compliance, and administrative enforcement matters involving the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) matters, U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), and other federal organizations.

Denise provides pre-compliance advice on proposed import transactions and advocates for clients in federal enforcement administrative actions. She is a published co-author for Bloomberg Law and the Florida Bar and has been quoted in the press. Denise has developed and presented customized training on administrative enforcements conducted by CBP smf FDA .

Denise has been a supporter of OneBillionRising since inception and was a V-DAY liaison from 2005-2009 while at the University of Florida. Denise has continued to support the Women’s Fund by promoting and participating in public events.

During law school Denise worked at the United Nations as a legal advisor for the Delegation of the Holy See at Third Committee of the General Assembly on Social, Humanitarian & Cultural Affairs, where she assisted experts, attorneys, and investigators in the areas of trade violations, advancement of women, promotion of fundamental freedoms through the elimination of racism and racial discrimination, crime prevention, criminal justice, and international drug control.

Denise’s interests and hobbies include practicing yoga, engaging in personal development, supporting women’s development, traveling, reading, and podcasts. Past Chair | Executive and Spiritual Life Coach Arathi Concepts, LLC Arathi Ramappa is a certified executive and spiritual coach, Forbes Coaches Council member, speaker, and management consultant who helps individuals thrive in life and business.

Using the concepts of emotional intelligence, self-compassion, and conflict management, Arathi has helped clients reduce stress, increase productivity, execute business strategy, develop leadership skills, diminish conflict in relationships, implement positive behaviors, and increase confidence.

She created the EASE Experience™ methodology to help others Explore, Analyze, Strengthen, and Empower their thinking to identify and conquer obstacles to success and change their lives and businesses. In her current coaching business, she offers one-on-one coaching to executives, c-suite, entrepreneurs, and independent professionals.

In addition, she works with organizations to help their leaders and teams enhance their emotional intelligence and become better problem-solvers. As a result, organizations can develop their company culture and increase collaboration, productivity, performance, leadership skills, and learn conflict management. Arathi’s career started in technology as a certified Microsoft developer.

She quickly went into operations management and oversaw the development of large scale financial applications. With this knowledge, she ventured out as an entrepreneur and started a technology and business consulting firm that she had for ten years.

One of the highlights of this business was when she consulted on the acquisition of a $4 Billion commercial asset management portfolio and became the Director of Risk and Control for the portfolio. During this time, she also owned a healthcare diagnostic imaging facility that she eventually sold to an HCA hospital.

With twenty years of experience in technology and business management coupled with certifications in coaching and emotional intelligence, Arathi’s background as a serial entrepreneur and a veteran in the start-up space has provided her with extensive cross-functional knowledge that she can apply to any situation or client.

She has managed teams globally in places such as India, Japan, China, Germany, Canada, Taiwan, Eastern Europe, as well as the U.S., and has worked with a wide range of clients from the financial, technology, healthcare, cybersecurity, and fashion industries, among others.

She is currently the Vice-Chair of The Women’s Fund Board, a member of the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce Pillar Board and their co-chair for the Women’s Business Council Advocacy Committee and Technology Council. She has a B. A.

in International Studies and lives in Miami Beach. Member of Austin Pamies Norris Weeks Powell, LLC Michelle Austin Pamies is a member of Austin Pamies Norris Weeks Powell, LLC. Her practice primarily involves representing municipalities and businesses, handling their transactional and litigation needs, as well as providing legal advice and counsel.

Prior to joining the Firm, Michelle worked for 8 years as Senior Corporate Counsel – Commercial Law in Union Pacific Railroad Company’s Law Department. Her responsibilities included being the lead attorney for the procurement of goods and services, procurement and management of intellectual property and development of new business ventures.

Michelle’s past experience also includes being General Counsel of Planet Automotive Group, Inc. (a/k/a Potamkin Automotive) a holding company for more than 40 automobile dealerships in 7 states; General Counsel of the Agency for Workforce Innovation, an agency of the State of Florida, n/k/a the Department of Economic Opportunity, Corporate Counsel for AutoNation, Inc.; and Corporate attorney in private practice at Holland & Knight LLP Miami office.

Michelle is a former member of the Public Health Trust of Miami-Dade County, and Miami-Dade County Ad Hoc Committee for the Creation of an Airport Authority. She has served on numerous non-profit boards, including Girls Inc. and SantLa (Haitian Neighborhood Center).

She is a founding member and former Vice President of the Haitian Lawyers Association, Inc. and is Co-Chair of the Women of Color Empowerment Institute, Inc. She serves on the board of the Haitian-American Chamber of Commerce and the University of Miami Law Alumni Association. She also serves on the Executive Board of the Greater Miami Chapter, Links Incorporated.

Michelle has received numerous awards, including, among others, the Nostalgia in Gold Caribbean Woman of Excellence Award, the Women of Distinction Award from the Lauderhill Chamber of Commerce, the Women who Inspire Award from the City of North Miami and one for being one of South Florida’s 50 Most Powerful and Influential Black Leaders of 2018 from Legacy Magazine.

Michelle is a 1996 Magna Cum Laude graduate of the University of Miami School of Law where she served on the University of Miami Law Review and was a member of the Order of the Coif. She is the proud mother of two adult sons, one a practicing attorney and the other, a mortgage loan officer for a major bank.

Secretary | President & COO, APM & Associates John joined Creative Staffing in 1995, with 12 years of experience in Staffing and Human Resources, as an equity partner with Ann Machado, President, and Founder of Creative Staffing. Prior, He has spent over 12 years with several major international staffing services throughout the United States (including Chicago, New York, Detroit, and Tampa).

There have been times in his career that he has been responsible for up to 40 branch offices throughout the Unites States, with revenues exceeding $200 million. As President/COO, and before retiring in 2023, he was responsible for the day-to-day operations of Creative Staffing, one of the largest independent staffing companies in South Florida.

He championed the efforts of enhancing the service delivery system inclusive of the sales, service, human resources, and accounting functions. Bitterman assisted many South Florida client companies and not for profit organizations in implementing strategic long- and short-term, optimized staffing programs.

As a long-term resident of Coconut Grove and South Florida he believes in giving back to this great community we live in by supporting many not-for-profit organizations. Creative Staffing has won numerous community, civic, professional, and charitable awards including Inc 500 list of fastest growing companies, Entrepreneurial Excellence Award, United Way Starfish Award, Working Women’s Top 500 Women-Owned Businesses and many more.

Originally, from Syracuse NY and attended Syracuse University he was in social services and was a live in-house father for girls in need, assisted in running a residential treatment program for JDs, and a social worker in the housing projects supporting families, youth, and the elderly.

He is glad to return to his roots of social services and making our community better in honor of his deceased mother, 4 sisters ,4 nieces, and 7 great nieces via supporting the vison and mission of Miami Dade’s Women’s Fund. Attorney/Certified Mediator Elise Scheck Bonwitt is an attorney, mediator, author, business owner, and coach.

Over the past few years, Elise has also served as legal counsel to several privately-held companies regarding issues such as employment law and corporate transactions. She is currently a principal at Scheck Group, a family office. She is also a Certified Circuit Court Mediator.

Elise co-founded of Amenta, a website that supports artisans and their communities throughout Latin America by selling their products. In addition, she is the co-founder of SImpact, an organization committed to increasing performance of social sector organizations. Elise has been actively involved in several non-profit organizations.

She is a member of the National Women’s Philanthropy Board, a board member of Overtown Youth Center, a vice chair of the JCC, and a Mentor with Women of Tomorrow, where she works with 30 girls at Miami Lakes Educational Center. She is also involved with Greater Miami Jewish Federation and is currently a Vice Chair of the Board.

She was chair of the Women’s Impact Initiative and President of Women’s Philanthropy, among other leadership positions. Elise has also given her time and energy to several other boards and committees throughout Miami. Elise graduated from University of Miami Law School and Columbia University.

She completed the Executive Program in Social Impact Strategy at the University of Pennsylvania. She lives in Miami with her husband, Gil Bonwitt. They are the proud parents of five children.

Sherril Colombo is a shareholder at Littler Mendelson in its Miami office. She is a Florida Board Certified Labor and Employment attorney with over thirty years of experience. Sherril represents employers and businesses in employment matters, including policy and compliance guidance, federal and state employment law claims, wage and hour issues and employment contracts.

Sherril has experience serving on boards and she is the past Chair of the Executive Council for the Labor & Employment Law Section of the Florida Bar and a former President of the Miami-Dade Chapter of the Florida Association for Women Lawyers . President & CEO The Carrie Meek Foundation Lucia Davis-Raiford is President and CEO of The Carrie Meek Foundation, which is the legacy in action of Congresswoman Carrie P.

Meek, one of the most influential and productive public servants in U.S. history. The Foundation is a nonprofit organization that advances Congresswoman Meek’s vision for civically engaged, well-resourced and resilient communities, providing opportunities to ALL people through access to education, health care, safe and affordable housing, and economic prosperity. Ms. Raiford has had a noted career in public service.

She was the Founding Director of the New York City Police Department, Domestic Violence Unit in the Office of the Chief of Department, where she was the highest-ranking civilian on the non-administrative side of the NYPD. She became a globally recognized innovator in the development of law enforcement response and crime prevention strategies in family violence.

She developed policies, procedures and grant programs that helped turn around the department’s response to the violence that generated more than 200,000 criminal complaints every year. The model has been replicated around the nation and the world through legislators, law enforcement agencies and social service planners in the United Kingdom, Austria, Australia, Taiwan, Japan, South Africa, and several countries in the Caribbean Basin.

Joining Miami-Dade County as the Director of The Office of Fair Employment Practices, her office guided civil and human rights and equal employment policies for the 20,000-member employee base of County Government. As the director of The Office of Human Rights, she ensured that all residents had equal access to employment, credit and finance, housing, and public accommodations.

Ms. Raiford transitioned to become the Director of Community Action and Human Services, the largest social services provider in the Southeast area, where she managed multimillion-dollar social programs such as Early Headstart/Headstart, elderly services and supportive programs that improved the quality of life for poor and working families of Miami- Dade County.

Raised in Miami, Florida, Lucia graduated from Bennett College for Women in Greensboro North Carolina. She earned her Juris Doctorate in Public Interest Law from the Antioch School of Law in Washington D. C.

A champion for women’s rights and philanthropy in the Black community, she has served on the Board of Directors of The Women’s Fund Miami-Dade, as Chair of the Miami-Dade County Domestic Violence Oversight Board, is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and The Links, Incorporated.

Private Wealth Advisor - Ellevest Wealth Management Mari, a CFP® professional and Private Wealth Advisor, is a strong believer that anything can be achieved with the proper planning and preparation. From serving as the first woman president of the Association of Latino Professionals For America at FIU, to starting her career at the top team at Merrill Lynch, she’s broken down barriers time and time again.

Mari brings a decade of experience in Private Wealth Management. Her main focus is to help women in transition: executives with significant wealth tied up in one stock, dealing with divorce or the loss of a partner, receiving an inheritance, navigating an IPO or liquidity event or nearing (or currently in) retirement.

Mari helps her clients build financial stability and make an impact with their wealth using personalized, goals-based investment strategies. She currently serves both Spanish- and English-speaking clients nation-wide. Mari is a big supporter of local organizations like Habitat for Humanity, 100+ Women Who Care Miami Beach, Women’s Executive Club of Fort Lauderdale, The Bass Women’s Circle and the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital.

Her hobbies include yoga, running & reading. Her and her husband, Manuel, recently welcomed twin boys! Director of Communications Knight Foundation Rebecca is Director of Communications at the Knight Foundation.

A leader in the feild of cause communications, she’s spent the past 20 years working to find new and innovative ways to empower and motivate people to make the world a better place. On issues that range from refugee relief to nuclear non-proliferation, domestic violence prevention and special needs education, she’s helped establish new laws, raise millions of dollars, attract top media coverage, and inspire movements.

Rebecca is also a potter and a member of the board of the Ceramic League of Miami. Executive Director, Radical Partners Joan is a Clinical Psychologist, with a master degree in International NGOs, and 14+ years of international work experience in the social impact sector (Guatemala, The Netherlands, Costa Rica, Chile and the United States).

She is a true believer that success in life should not be measured with the things you obtain, but with the lives you are able to transform. Always committed to the development of women, she’s uplifted their voces at small organizations based in the rural areas of Central America all the way to UN Women.

To continue pursuing her life mission and many passions, she sits on the Board of the Women’s Fund in Miami, is also one of the co-founders of the F*up Nights movement in Miami, and is an active alumni of the Global Shapers Community.

Real Estate Attorney at Bilzin Sumberg Hannah Lidicker joined the Women’s Fund of Miami-Dade Board in 2025 after initially getting involved with the organization through the planning committees for Raise the Bar and Power of the Purse.

Hannah is a transactional real estate attorney at Bilzin Sumberg here in Miami, and specializes in the representation of real estate developers in South Florida and nationally on the purchase, sale, financing, and leasing of commercial property. She has extensive experience in construction finance and both office and retail leasing. In addition, Hannah serves as a mentor both to peers at her firm and to local law students.
