Investing in the future of our community The Parker Foundation’s primary goal is to make effective grants that benefit the residents of the City of Lowell . Grants are focused mainly on basic human needs including food, housing, education, and health.
The foundation also makes grants for a variety of specific programs and projects including arts and cultural activities, community development, urban environmental projects, capital improvements, and equipment purchases.
Lowell Parks & Conservation Trust, Mass Audubon, and Mill City Grows, in collaboration with the City of Lowell, have reached an agreement with the Perron family to purchase and protect in perpetuity what is currently called Rollie’s Farm. Over 2023 and 2024 we will purchase the property and begin to transform it into Pawtucket Farm Wildlife Sanctuary .
In 2018, Parker Foundation provided a $15,000 grant to support the Middle School Lowell Community Charter Public School literacy program. Through this program the Middle School Literacy Program (MSLP) which aimed to expand use of culturally diverse and inclusive texts.
Lowell Community Charter Public School Mill City Grows is committed to equitable access to land and gardening education for Lowell residents to improve food access and community connections. Funds from the Parker Foundation helped us to provide outreach to community members and implement new programming at our Armory Park Garden, which was established in the Spring of 2021, and now serves 40 gardeners.
Community volunteers worked all day to build the garden beds at Armory Park. Funding from the Theodore Edson Parker Foundation supported costs associated with IINE-Lowell’s relocation to the Lowell Community Health Center in 2021. The Foundation has also recently provided funding for IINE-Lowell’s Afghan Evacuee Response, which supported 236 Afghans with resettlement, employment, ESOL and other critical services.
