Thespian Growth & Excellence Fund - Educational Theatre Foundation Educator & Program Grants Giving school theatre programs a boost The Thespian Growth & Excellence Fund is committed to supporting the ongoing development of theatre programs and the pursuit of excellence for educators, students, schools, and communities by offering a number of grants that assist in EdTA membership, teacher support, and programmatic resources for theatre in schools.
By the end of 2024, the Thespian Growth and Excellence Fund has awarded 349 grants to 276 schools , totaling $286,167 in assistance provided to school theatre programs, many at schools with Title 1 designations. Any EdTA member (individual or Thespian troupe director) is eligible to apply for any Thespian Growth and Excellence Grant. In addition, theatre educators who are EdTA members can apply for the Teacher Support grant.
Schools may apply for a maximum of two (2) grants per academic year . Applications are prioritized based on demonstrated need, such as Title 1 s tatus . For questions, please contact: foundation@schooltheatre.

Available Thespian Growth & Excellence Grants Four different types of grants are available for schools to develop and grow their theatre programs: Can be used for professional development for theatre educators that would benefit their students, including coursework, EdTA’s Theatre Education Conference registration fees, and related travel expenses.
Can cover expenses related to the production of a play or musical, including but not limited to licensing fees, rentals, sets, costumes, etc. Can be used for costs associated with Thespian troupe activities, including attending professional theatrical productions and associated travel costs, attending state Thespian conferences and festivals, and fees related to Thespian inductions and annual dues.
Can be awarded to help school theatre programs with large technical purchases that upgrade the resources available for theatrical use, such as lighting and sound equipment. Eligibility: Any EdTA member (individual or Thespian troupe director) is eligible to apply for any Thespian Growth and Excellence Grant. In addition, theatre educators who are EdTA members can apply for the Teacher Support grant.
