Thompson Charitable Regranting Program is sponsored by Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky. This regional grant initiative, in partnership with the Thompson Charitable Foundation, aims to strengthen local capacity and respond to urgent community needs in Bell, Clay, Laurel, and Leslie counties.

The program provides flexible grant funding to nonprofit organizations serving Bell, Clay, Laurel, and Leslie Counties in Kentucky. In 2026, up to a total of $250,000 will be awarded to support organizations addressing urgent needs while strengthening long-term community resilience.

Grants will support nonprofit organizations aligned with the Thompson Charitable Foundation’s mission and priorities, including but not limited to: Community and economic development efforts that improve quality of life Food pantries and food access programs Schools, youth programs, and educational initiatives Volunteer fire departments and emergency services Domestic violence shelters and prevention programs Children’s advocacy centers and child welfare services Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations located in or serving Bell, Clay, Laurel, or Leslie Counties in Kentucky.

Grant Amounts and Timeline Total funding available in 2026: $250,000 Grants will range in size from $5,000 to $25,000. Amounts will vary based on need, scope capacity, and impact. Grant application will open on April 15, 2026 and close on May 31, 2026 The Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky prioritizes accessible grantmaking, local decision-making, and trust-based philanthropy.
