Thriving Communities Grantmaking Program | Philanthropy Northwest Thriving Communities Grantmaking Program Supporting local solutions for healthier communities. The Thriving Communities Grantmaking Program is designed to help local organizations address the environmental and public health challenges that matter most to their communities.
From watershed cleanups and air-quality monitoring to increasing wildfire resiliency and improving stormwater infrastructure, the program supports projects that reflect local priorities and deliver meaningful, community-led impact.
Since 2024, Philanthropy Northwest, in partnership with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), is working to distribute more than $48 million in grants across Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington, including tribal nations within this region. Grant Applications are Closed Please note that grant applications are now closed and we will not have future rounds. Projects may last one to two years, depending on the grant type.
All projects must be complete and grant funds spent by July 31, 2027.
For gathering data, conducting needs assessments and deepening understanding of local environmental and public health issues For designing solutions, building partnerships and preparing for implementation Project Development & Implementation Grants For bringing plans to life through community-led programs, infrastructure, education and more For severely capacity-constrained organizations with budgets under $500,000 or those serving areas with populations of 50,000 people or fewer We believe federal resources should be accessible to every community in the Northwest.
