There are now three stages in our application process for unsolicited proposals: An Expression of Interest stage, A Letter of Inquiry stage, and In order to submit your Expression of Interest, you will first need to complete our Grant Qualification Assessment. We have developed this tool to help you determine if your organization would be a good fit for our grants. Please take the Assessment before you request our support.

If you pass the Assessment, you will be provided with a link to our Expression of Interest form. This form only has a few basic questions about your organization and the project you are proposing for a grant. In order to reduce the time and effort it takes organizations to submit an Expression of Interest, and the time it takes us to review them, your program summary may not be more than 1000 characters (about half a page).

You will be able to submit your Expression of Interest for one day only , on July 1, 2026 from midnight to 11:59 P. M. Pacific time.

There is no advantage to submitting your Expression of Interest early on July 1. All submissions we receive will be treated equally regardless of when they were submitted on that day. All Expressions of Interest will be reviewed by at least one member of our staff.

We will be sending out invitations to submit Letters of Inquiry and declines in early August. Applicants will be informed either way. Approximately sixty organizations that submitted Expressions of Interest will be invited to submit Letters of Inquiry.

These are longer forms that allow applying organizations to provide more detail about their organizations and projects. Some organizations that submitted Letters of Inquiry will be invited to complete much more detailed full proposals. Our grant decisions will be made based on the full proposals.

Current Grantees: Current grantees do not have to submit Expressions of Interest. We will accept Letters of Inquiry up to the submission deadline for additional funding from all the projects we funded in the last grant cycle that are eligible for additional grants. We normally can only offer support for up to three years for each program we fund.

This limit is by project, not organization. Sponsored and Invited Proposals: Sponsored and Invited Proposals do not have to submit Expressions of Interest. We will accept Letters of Inquiry up to the submission deadline for proposals sponsored by a Tomberg Family Philanthropies Board Member, or invited by our organization.

Any organization considering an unsolicited grant application must first submit an Expression of Interest (EOI). All returning grantees and Sponsored and Invited organizations must submit Letters of Inquiry if they want to be considered for funding. Letters of Inquiry and Full Proposals should be submitted using the Foundant grant management system.
