This comprehensive TotalAssist fund provides a grant of up to $9,000 per year that can be used to help pay for eligible expenses including medication copays, coinsurance, and deductibles, health insurance premiums, office visit charges the day of treatment, and administration charges related to treatment. Dermatomyositis is a rare autoimmune disease that causes muscle weakness and a skin rash due to inflammation in the body.
It can make everyday activities like climbing stairs, lifting objects, or getting up from a chair difficult because the muscles become weak and tired. According to the Myositis Support and Understanding Association , dermatomyositis affects twice as many women as men and is found to be more common in African Americans.
“With no cure, patients living with dermatomyositis can experience a profound impact on both quality of life and life expectancy and might be at higher risk for other diseases such as cardiovascular disease, lung disease, or certain types of cancer,” said Kevin L. Hagan, Patient Advocate Foundation’s CEO.
“Through our comprehensive, flexible fund, patients can use their TotalAssist grant for any combination of eligible expenses, not limited to just one category. We are grateful to our generous donors for making it possible for us to offer these patients financial help to lighten some of the burden they are facing as they navigate their healthcare journey.
” To be eligible for the TotalAssist dermatomyositis fund , patients must: Have a confirmed diagnosis and be in treatment for dermatomyositis, or planning to begin treatment in the next 60 days, or have been in treatment in the past 6 months.
This includes active surveillance of a condition Have health insurance that covers your qualifying expenses Have an income at or less than 500% of the Federal Poverty Level, adjusted for your regional Cost of Living Index (COLI) Be a legal resident and receive treatment in the U.S. or a U.S. territory Be prescribed a medication or product included in the approved medication list for this specific fund, if using the fund for medication expenses Patients, or anyone supporting them such as a caregiver, pharmacy, provider, or nonprofit partner, can apply online or by phone for TotalAssist grants.
Our online application through our TotalAssist portal ( portal. totalassist. org ) is secure and takes about 15 minutes to complete.
