Transportation Project Funding | Wasatch Front Regional Council Transportation Project Funding The Wasatch Front Regional Council (WFRC) administers approximately $50 million in federal transportation funding annually to local communities through the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) Program, Surface Transportation (STP) Program, Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP), and Carbon Reduction Program (CRP) within the Salt Lake and Ogden-Layton Urban Areas.
Surface Transportation Program Provides funding for roadways, transit capital improvements, and active transportation projects. Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Provides funding for transportation projects that improve air quality. Transportation Alternatives Program Provides funding for the planning and construction of bicycle and pedestrian facilities.
Provides funding for transportation projects that reduce on-road carbon dioxide emissions. WFRC works with communities each year to identify and select transportation projects for funding. Applicants submit a short Letter of Intent to begin the process.
Full applications are due, allowing WFRC to evaluate project need, impact, and readiness. WFRC and local governments recommend projects that best improve mobility, strengthen the economy, and enhance quality of life across the region.
