Travel Grants — Iran Society The Iran Society grant scheme offers support to students and researchers associated with British institutions for overseas Persian language study. This might include course fees, travel or accommodation. The grant scheme also seeks to support general research projects, cultural activities, conservation and books on subjects of general interest relating to Iran (but not related to contemporary politics).
Applications for grants of up to £2,000 will be considered, though our typical grant is less than £1,000. The application window for grants generally opens in the Spring. Applications for 2026 should be submitted by the end of March for adjudication in April.
To apply, send a proposal, no longer than two sides of A4, outlining the study, travel or project to be funded, including a budget and details of any other funding applied for or received to date, together with a CV. Please include details of at least one referee. Send your application to info@iransociety.
org by the stated deadline. Applications received after the deadline will be entertained only if the annual budget has not been exceeded. Grantees travelling to Iran (only if conditions permit) for language study must be associated with a British Institution.
The Society does not contribute towards regular university tuition fees. Research projects, cultural activities or books supported by the Iran Society grant scheme should be of interest to the general public. Priority is given to individuals from British institutions, but others are welcome to apply.
Successful applicants must receive the grant into a UK bank account. Priority is given to first-time applicants. Grantees are required to submit a report on completion of their funded project, and may be asked to give a lecture on the subject.
