Trees Outside Woodland Fund - The Tree Council Trees Outside Woodland Fund Trees Outside Woodland Fund Kayleigh Wright 2026-04-14T11:55:01+01:00 About the fund The Tree Council and Defra are working in partnership to provide a new Trees Outside Woodland Fund in 2025/26. The fund’s purpose is to establish trees outside woodland to create or enhance green spaces using a range of tree types and planting methods.
The fund supports the delivery of the Government’s Environmental Improvement Plan goal to increase England’s overall tree canopy from 14. 5% to 16. 5% of total land area by 2050.
This fund is open to local authorities and registered charities. This fund is now closed. Register your interest to hear when the Trees Outside Woodland Fund and others re-open.
Grants of between £10,000 and £40,000 for trees and supporting capital items are available, per application Local authorities based in England (county council, unitary authority, metropolitan or London borough, combined authority, district or city council) Registered charities planning to undertake a project in England (with a turnover of more than £100,000) This fund operates as a two-stage rolling application process, open from 10 June to 31 October 2025, or until all funding has been allocated — whichever comes first.
