TSNRP High Priority Call is sponsored by TriService Nursing Research Program (TSNRP). This funding opportunity supports innovative, high-impact military nursing research that leads to operational readiness, improved patient outcomes, and better quality of life for all members of the armed forces and their beneficiaries.

FY27A Initial Operational Research Awards Up to $500,000 Letters of Intent Required by August 24, 2026 Invited Applications Due: October 2, 2026 Call for TSNRP Military Nursing Research Priorities Only: Return to Duty (RTD) Decision Science : Addresses the large gap in systematic RTD decision‑making; explores criteria, risk tolerance, provider judgment accuracy, and AI support.

Expected projects may include but are not limited to: Nursing Surveillance Systems, Decision‑support frameworks, Prototype AI‑driven RTD recommendation tools, & Predictive Analytic tools. RTD Epidemiology: Observational science in the first 3–5 years to map how combat injuries translate into RTD outcomes.

Expected projects may include but are not limited to: RTD prediction models, Risk calculators for clinicians and commanders, & Operational nursing surveillance systems. Nursing Management & Forward Recovery : Preparing nurses for delayed evacuation & prolonged casualty care; adapts hospital recovery science, ERAS, and critical‑care, med-surg, psych mental health nursing to the battlefield.

Expected projects may include but are not limited to: Evidence‑based forward‑recovery guidelines (clinical practice recommendations). Military Nursing Capabilities in Prolonged Casualty Care (PCC): Aligns with Joint Trauma System guidance that PCC builds on TCCC as a contingency capability when evacuation is delayed.

Expected projects may include but are not limited to: Tiered PCC task lists (time‑based), Training curricula for sustained nursing competencies, & Tele‑nursing implementation roadmap. Expeditionary Convalescent Care: Explores forward recovery “convalescent depots” at battalion aid stations, Role 2 facilities, and expeditionary medical units.

Expected projects may include but are not limited to: Nursing Resource‑allocation models for forward convalescent care, Nursing Staffing templates & patient‑selection criteria. Combat Stress & Psychological RTD: Examines forward treatment of acute combat stress reactions, nurse burnout, a historically high‑RTD area; emphasizes nursing‑led interventions.

Expected projects may include but are not limited to: Nursing‑focused psychosocial intervention protocols, Psychological first aid kit & screening/triage tools for combat stress, exposure of the medical team to ethical dilemmas, and other hardships. Applications for FY 26 close on 31 August. ​​ TSNRP announces New RAPID High Priority Award for funding of 12-month EBP or research operational projects conducted by military nurse PIs.

This funding opportunity is limited to the distinct areas of operational military nursing projects that can be rapidly deployed on the battlefield, and/or address operational readiness of medical command units including: Operational Nursing & Artificial Intelligence Austere Environment Readiness Observational Research on Prolonged Evacuation Training Innovative Workload Models Trauma Care and/or Prolonged Field Care in Underground/Subterrain Battlefield Environments 1 research aim or 1 evidence-based intervention question.

Funding is limited to $500,000 for Research and $250,000 for Evidence-Based Practice projects. ​​ Research or EBP in the following operational military nursing research areas: Innovative approaches to appraising workload models in deployed settings (battlefield, disasters, hospital settings) Strategies to support nurses transitioning from battlefield to regular duty Austere environment readiness, innovative approaches to training and care delivery Observational research evaluating extant prolonged evacuation training products: Observational studies that evaluate the effectiveness and impact of existing prolonged evacuation training products.

Proposals should detail plans for assessing how these training products are utilized in the field, their accessibility and usability for healthcare providers, and their outcomes on patient care in prolonged evacuation scenarios. The goal is to identify strengths and weaknesses in current training offerings and recommend improvements based on empirical evidence under actual or simulated conditions.

​Trauma Care and/or Prolonged Field Care in Underground/Subterrain Battlefield Enviornments: research, development, innovation and interventional approaches that address key obstacles and challenges in delivering of trauma care and/or prolonged field care in underground/subterrain environment with the goal of improving survival and medical outcomes Note: A TSNRP principal investigator may have up to 2 High Priority Awards concurrently.

TSNRP does not provide funding for previously funded topics. In addition to improving the performance of Service members, funding supports improvements in expeditionary care, military women’s and family health, biobehavorial health, resuscitative medicine, anesthesia practice, and health systems research. In FY2024, $7. 59 million was awarded for 20 research studies by military nurses.

TSNRP-funded research is currently conducted at 32 military medical centers around the globe.
