Students - Grant program and internships Students - Grant program and internships We offer summer and year-round internships for high school and college students. Conditional Grant Program The Conditional Grant Program is available to eligible students pursuing a degree in engineering or a TxDOT-approved operational business discipline. The Conditional Grant Program will consider both Texas public and private four-year institutions.
Students accepted into the program receive up to $5,000 per semester or $10,000 per academic year, based on financial need. Before applying, please carefully review the Instructions and FAQs to ensure you understand all eligibility requirements and required documentation. This step is essential - incomplete applications will not be accepted.

For additional information, please call toll free 866-554-4330. To qualify for the Conditional Grant Program, you must: Be economically disadvantaged according to the Federal Poverty Guidelines . Be a Texas resident eligible to work in the United States.
Have a minimum cumulative college or unweighted high school GPA of 2. 50 Plan to attend or currently attending an accredited four-year Texas public or private college or university as a full-time student. Declare an intent to seek a four-year degree in civil engineering or a TxDOT-approved operational business discipline.
Intend to work for the department for the two academic years immediately following the date of the student's receipt of an eligible degree from an institution in the State of Texas. Not be more than 30 days delinquent in providing child support under a court order or written repayment plan.
Student Internships - available year-round TxDOT’s Internship Program is designed for high school and college students seeking to be introduced to career opportunities and gain practical work experience in transportation-related fields and support occupations. Full and part-time positions are available year-round. Academic credit for work experience may be awarded based on an institution’s intern policy.
Real-world impact: dive into impactful work that contributes to the success of TxDOT’s Mission: Connecting you with Texas Practical career experience: acquire unique experience while performing meaningful work on projects and tasks that contribute to the Department’s success Continuous learning: participate in training sessions and gain access to resources that will enhance your skills and knowledge Statewide connections: build a network of other interns in your field and connect with experts from around the state of Texas To qualify, students must meet the following criteria: Be at least 16 years old.

Students are employed in positions related to their major field of study. Academic credit for work experience is awarded based on the institution’s policy. The College Cooperative Education program is a planned and progressive learning process that integrates academic studies with supervised work experience.

Submit a completed state employment application, and Be enrolled as a full-time student at a high school, technical school, college, or university the spring semester before the summer work period or be currently accepted for enrollment at an institution of higher learning. Students can attend class for half a day and work for half a day.
