This page will be updated when applications are being accepted again for this program. ** U.S. Embassy Lilongwe will partner with community organizations to complete small scale projects that create income, improve health, and expand educational opportunities.
All projects should be initiated and administered at the local level. Preference will be given to projects that include significant community contributions and that have a high number of beneficiaries. Projects that address needs within disadvantaged or marginalized populations are encouraged.
**Self-Help Program Application Schedule** * Application Period: 12 February 2024 – 30 April 2024 * Grant Award Announcement: September 2024 * One proposal per organization. * Funds cannot be comingled with funds from other donors. * Funding is competitive and not guaranteed.
All citizens of Malawi representing a civilian, religious, social, community development, special interest, disability, or advocacy group or organization may request funding for a community activity. Groups must be registered with the proper authorities. **To be eligible for funding, the project must:** 1.
Improve economic or social conditions in the community. 2. Benefit the greatest number of people possible.
3. Include substantial community contribution. 4.
Be within the community’s ability to maintain and operate. 5. Be completed within 12 months.
6. Be self-sustaining upon completion. 7.
Provide evidence that the selected Project Coordinator is financially responsible and will be able to account for funds received. **Proposals due 30 April 2024 17:00 CAT** For applications sent by post, they must be postmarked by that date and time.
