The UAE AI for Agriculture Ecosystem is a coordinated set of AI-for-agriculture initiatives anchored by a $200 million UAE-Gates Foundation partnership announced at COP28 and formally launched in December 2025. The ecosystem comprises four landmark initiatives.
The Institute for Agriculture and Artificial Intelligence (IAAI) based at MBZUAI in Abu Dhabi is a digital advisory hub for agriculture that offers AI advisory tools, training programs, and technical assistance teams to governments and NGOs serving smallholder farmers. The CGIAR AI Hub coordinates AI research and deployment across the CGIAR network of 15 research centers serving low- and middle-income countries.
AgriLLM is an open-source agricultural large language model developed by ai71, trained on agricultural research and real farming Q&A, delivering multilingual region-specific role-based guidance for climate adaptation and food production. AIM for Scale supports scaling effective AI for agriculture interventions.
The ecosystem targets 43 million smallholder farmers impacted by climate change, with public-good outputs including open data, open models, and open digital advisory tools.
