gov / U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Real Estate Acquisition and Relocation Real Estate Acquisition and Relocation The Uniform Relocation Assistance and Real Property Acquisition Policies Act of 1970 (URA or Uniform Act) and other HUD requirements such as section 104(d) of the Housing and Community Development (HCD) Act provide important protections and assistance for people and businesses affected by a federally funded projecting involving acquisition, rehabilitation, or demolition of real property.

The URA was enacted by Congress to ensure fair, uniform, and equitable treatment and just compensation for, and assistance in moving from, the property they own or occupy. HUD works closely with the U.S. Department of Transportation - Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the designated Federal Lead Agency for the URA. For HUD-assisted programs and projects refer to the Uniform Act or URA as amended, 42 USC 4601 et seq , and implementing regulations at 49 CFR part 24 . For the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), HOME Investment Partnerships, and certain other programs also refer to Section 104(d) of the HCD Act as amended, 42 USC 5304(d) , and implementing regulations at 24 CFR part 42 .
