The University Centers of Exemplary Mentoring (UCEM) theory of change posits that through financial support, strong mentoring, supportive community, and institutional commitment, all students in STEM can thrive and institutions can change graduate science and engineering education in ways that make it more welcoming and inclusive of all talent.
The UCEM model includes activities in four key areas of graduate education: strong mentoring, supportive community, institutional commitment, and student funding. Foundation-supported scholarships for physical science and engineering doctoral students at UCEM campuses, known as “Sloan Scholars," are a key feature of the program. The Foundation is not seeking new institutional partners for the University Centers of Exemplary Mentoring.
